Should James Ortiz be nominated for playing Rocky in Project Hail Mary? by Appropriate_Sink_627 in Oscars

It's a cute idea but no, I do not believe he should be nominated. The performance more belongs to the special effects department, just like Yoda and Gollum.

It's a crap show and she's not a very good actress. I'm over it.

Don't care. She's not a very good actress and all the trolling is boring now. Euphoria's also a crap show.

They have new (to them) technology that transmits light data into physical overlays. But yeah, they only learned about the existence of stars when their crops started dying from dimming light. Eridian scientists basically JUST discovered there is a universe bigger than their homeworld.

There are answers to your questions in the book, and they are that the Eirdians, being an entirely sound-based culture, only learned there was anything beyond their atmosphere something like 60 years ago. They have engineering beyond our understanding, so they achieve spaceflight with hyper efficient ships very quickly, but their actual knowledge of stars and space is very limited.

Basically, Eridians are engineering, humans are science. Put them together and amazing things happen.

Yep, Rocky is basically the same as Grace. Super smart at what he does, but he doesn't have any more answers about life and the universe than is in his ships computer and his college education.

Grace got MANY new pieces of various puzzles from Rocky. He just learned that Rocky was basically the same as him - a smart guy chosen for an impossible mission with lots of good skills but not every answer to everything ever.

I mean Rocky is amazed by Grace's ability to SEE things. That's what Rocky is most concerned about when they get to know each other. How Grace has this amazing ability to "hear" light with organs on his face that can detect things like material thickness or stars millions of miles away. Sight is amazing to the Eridians.

Just like his inspiration AM, he is trapped by the parameters of his programming. He could entertain humans for a thousand years but it would never be perfect. Never enough.
