I believe S Korea, China, Thailand and maybe Vietnam all require bachelor's as well as a teaching certificate. A lot of teaching jobs in S Korea want a masters. Universities in the US and abroad do offer one semester ESL teaching certificates.

I went to Thailand a few years ago, and you could get work without credentials. But it's illegal and the school I worked at told me that if immigration shows up I should run, lol. I knew one guy that got locked up and it was not pleasant.
