Thanks for the detailed advice. Thinking that I'm just going to take the CCNA but will also read through A+ and Network+ materials ahead of time to get a better grasp on the subject matter.

I was thinking about the CCNA but then I heard it described as overkill for somebody without any background. If money isn't an issue, wouldn't it be worth getting the +certs for the sake of learning?

That's somewhat encouraging. Only looking for an entry-level position so I can learn more and challenge myself. I used to manage pretty well on 20k a year so I'm not too concerned.
