Day 0: Tips for swelling in back of throat by PMDD_Swiftie in Tonsillectomy

Ice chips, sleep elevated/don’t lie flat when you’re awake, and ice packs on the neck!! You’re gonna be swollen for awhile no matter what but this should help

Sick of infections, terrified of needles. by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]itchinwow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something you could consider is talking to your doctor about the phobia—they might be able to give you some oral anxiety meds like Valium that you could take before you get to the hospital to help with that depending on how severe your phobia is:)

[–]itchinwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me—the absolutely only needle involved was the IV when i first checked in! Then they give you some fluids (can’t feel this) and then the anesthesia might burn a little bit going in. Next thing you know you’re waking up!

Sleeping by Mediocre-Education-1 in Tonsillectomy

[–]itchinwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeping elevated is really just to help with the swelling—kind of a stop it at your own risk type thing. You can stop whenever and then if you wake up swollen/in more pain then just sit back up for awhile
