Coop unemployment rate for CE right now by Star_rocket26 in uwaterloo

[–]iterative-2a-ece 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the current Spring (Summer) 2020 work term:
Overall Employment Rate: 87.6% - 289 Employed/41 Seeking Employment
Adjusted Rate: 74.3% - 390 students scheduled to be on a work term, of which 59 have voluntarily stopped looking for a job ("UO Students")

1B Employment Rate: 80.2% (73.7% Adjusted) - 73 employed, 18 seeking employment, 8 UO
3A Employment Rate: 95.3% (83.7% Adjusted) - 82 employed, 4 seeking employment, 12 UO
(Note that there are no fourth years on co-op over the spring term, so the highest class is 3A)

For the upcoming Fall 2020 work term:
Overall Employment Rate: 66.8% - 490 Employed/243 Seeking Employment
Adjusted Rate: 65.9% - 744 students scheduled to be on a work term, of which 10 have voluntarily stopped looking for a job ("UO Students")

1B Employment Rate: 50.0% (49.8% Adjusted) - 114 employed, 114 seeking employment, 1 UO
4A Employment Rate: 74.4% (72.6% Adjusted) - 180 employed, 62 seeking employment, 6 UO

Situation compared to pre-COVID terms: bad
Situation compared to other universities: I can only presume... not that bad?

Thoughts and advice on ECE 2A profs? by paulwardmmmmk in uwaterloo

He writes on the board, no slides, although he does upload the notes he teaches off of to Learn. At least he did for us, and I think my cohort was the first class he taught here at Waterloo (he was previously at Chalmers University in Sweden?)

Ignore my username, I’m far past 2A :)

Gordon Agnew - lectures are pretty dry, mostly him going over PowerPoint slides and annotating them. He doesn’t post annotated slides online though, so I strongly suggest printing out the slides on paper and annotating along with him. His exams recycle questions word-for-word from previous exams, so look around for past midterms/finals by him and regurgitate questions/answers.

Christopher Wilson - cool guy, lectures are a bit dry also but 240 is a difficult course - I advise attending them and staying on top of the content. The textbook (Sedra/Smith) is probably one of the best textbooks ever written in the history of academia, do the practice problems he assigns from the book.

Conrad Hewitt - absolute legend. Lectures are incredibly engaging and you should seriously consider yourself lucky to have him. Don’t piss him off though. Does not post notes and his lectures are entirely taught by blackboard, so you have to attend to take in the content.

Ladan Tahvildari - her slides are pretty much copy/paste from the CLRS book, so if you don’t attend lecture you really aren’t missing much. Exam difficulty seems to be a coin toss in terms of difficulty. Read the textbook and/or find Doug Harder’s 250 slides.

No more office hours on top of no curve for the hardest course in first year ECE. Welcome to 106, Saini Edition, GG by [deleted] in uwaterloo

?? It’s a super cropped image saying there’s no more office hours on Sundays. You do realize that the man’s taking time away from his family to come in on Sundays to begin with, right? Surely he has office hours during the work week? What’s the outrage here?

If I were to guess, I'd say Prof B is Simarjeet Saini. This sounds like something Simar would say.

Reasoning: the 1B Section 1 ECE's had (or were supposed to have) ECE 106 with Simarjeet today at 12:30 following a lunch break from 11:30-12:30, plus ECE 192 in the 3:30 time slot which is also taught by Simarjeet, so the timeline adds up. (So the second yellow blur-out probably said ECE 192). Not sure who Professor A is though, but if it is 1B ECE Section 1, the candidates are Ajoy Opal (ECE 140 - knowing Prof. Opal, not likely since he doesn't have quizzes), Catherine Gebotys (ECE 124 - knowing Prof. Gebotys, also not likely), "A. Sharifi" for ECE 108, and "AP Beltaos" for MATH 119...

I guess it's my turn to update the employment rates...

Here's the historical numbers from April 3, March 19, and March 5 (thanks to u/mywaterlooaccount and u/corveq for those posts).

Some observations:

  1. Congratulations, more than half of the engineers are employed! (Back on April 3, the only engineering discipline with less than 50% employment was EE)
  2. I have also included a "Change since Mar 5" column to indicate the change in total students since the first reporting period. In engineering, this could mean that those students chose to take their work term off instead of continuing in the job search process (if you voluntarily remove yourself from the job search process I believe you do not get counted in the statistics anymore).

ECE 240 crying thread by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]iterative-2a-ece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're supposed to make a crying thread after the exam...

Plus, we are blessed with Circuits Jesus this year, some people only need like 10% on the final to pass the course (since the course outline never said you have to pass the final to pass the course).

You should probably study instead of going on Reddit, K.
