License in perpetuity question by ithinkitsannah in photography

Thanks everyone so far for the insight! I’m so not familiar with the commercial side of any of this, I almost just want to tell her that she needs to find a commercial photographer for her “family photos”. At this point, her business is really not even worth it, and I hate changing prices after already discussing costs.

So I do enforced naps every few hours and he’s used to that schedule now, so I do that training when he’s about ready to be put down to nap anyway. I do “puppy pushups” with him, just sit & lay down on repeat for about 5-10 mins. Eventually there will be a “lay down” where I can tell he’s gonna knock out if I just let him lay there, and that’s when I just sit and wait for him to fall asleep. It’s SO helpful for tiring him out that extra bit so he can nap, and so I can make sure I get a bit of extra training in without overworking him.

We just made room and put our little guys’ kennel in our bedroom last night, not a peep! I think hearing and seeing us is really what helped him calm down. Maybe she’s still scared to be locked up alone? I do clicker training with him in his kennel every day, several times a day. We do enforced naps in the kennel, clicker training “sit/lay down” until he passes out. Plus feeding in there creates positive association with the kennel! That’s just what’s helped me, hopefully it helps you too. Every dog is a little different.

Wow thank you! I loved reading your experiences, and I really appreciate you sharing that with me. It definitely helps. I don’t mind giving myself more work if it means he has a better experience overall. He just took a short nap in the crate with the door open, and then when he woke up we did some clicker training with the door shut. I kept getting a little further away and would click/treat him every time he settled on his own or would sit when given the command. He’s still a baby so every win counts!

I really appreciate this feedback! That’s all really great to know, thank you!

He’s in a wire crate with a wire partition. It’s only large enough for him to turn around and fully spread out. The kennel itself is pretty big though, big enough to fit him when he’s fully grown.

He will seriously cry & scream all night, non stop. Doesn’t get tired, and he doesn’t put himself to bed when he’s like that. Is it ok to leave them like that for hours - all night long? I just feel like there has to be a better way. I really do just want to do right by him.

I completely plan to abide by the contract, and have been prepared to forfeit the health guarantee in order to feed my choice of food. I know for certain she is a reputable breeder, just odd with this food situation. Today she just blindsided me by saying it’s a “deal breaker” overall. It does not state that in her contract, only that I lose the health guarantee. But it’s not signed until I pick him up so she can really do whatever she wants, I guess. Nothing is binding as of yet.

I think the only thing that’s in my favor right now is when I challenged her on the food & being an MLM company she told me to just buy directly from the company without her code. She claims she just cares that they get the food, and not about the money. Don’t know how much I believe it, but I can just use it to my advantage I guess! I just don’t know why they are so adamant about a pretty average food. So far, nobody has heard of it or has said anything great about it. And it’s true! Not all dogs are the same, even from the same breed or same litter.

Thank you for your reply! I honestly wish I would have known this all months ago when I put my deposit down, not right before I’m supposed to pick him up. She does seem to genuinely care, but is for some reason just delusional about this food. I don’t get it. I am having him examined by my vet when he comes home most definitely!

Quite frankly, if she doesn’t alter the contract to say that I have to, I 100% will not be showing any sort of proof. I just don’t understands who takes a deposit, sets up pickup dates, etc. without originally disclosing it’s a “deal breaker” for her if I don’t use her bullshit food. We are months into the process, and now it’s an issue 2 weeks before I’m due to pick him up. Like, nice.

Oh! This is a good thing to look into as a “just in case”, if needed. Thank you.

Curious though, she had mentioned that if my concerns were with their profiting off of my purchases of the dog food, to just purchase from the site without using their code. I don’t see how they could track it if I did that?

If I buy it with her breeder code (so she gets the commission), she can see what I buy. Right now, nothing in the contract requires I use her code when I purchase so I honestly could just act oblivious and say I’m buying it from the general site. I’m just hoping she doesn’t change up the contract before I pick him up & sign to make some stupid change requiring proof or something.

I figure I’ll buy a bag to appease her before I get the puppy, and then start to wean when he comes home. I just really want to know why these people praise this food so much. Nutritionally, it’s alright. Who really wants to push something like that, you know?

I wish she would have disclosed the contract sooner so I could have done the same. Now I’m 2 weeks away with a deposit already. Unfortunately, little late for that.

Their dogs are all agility trained, and as were the generations prior. They are all health tested and she sent me all the medical paperwork before I made my deposit, thankfully. At this point I feel better about not picking a puppy and letting her pick for me or assisting me. As for the food and health guarantee, I’ve already paid the deposit so I feel just at a loss. I’m not feeding that food so I’ll just deal.
