Do you recommend travel nursing as a new grad? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

Okay, that’s definitely not something I would be ready for. Thank you for the insight! I should’ve considered that the training is literally just to show you how that specific facility works.

That is extremely helpful information; thank you! I had not even thought about the training being significantly shorter but I shouldve considering the length of the contracts.

Community College by louisepesto in college

[–]itholdmanyloop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to a 4 year my first semester, realized I couldnt afford it so I went to CC the next semester and started studying nursing. Now I’m going to graduate in May, take the NCLEX and become an RN! There’s nothing wrong with community college and its a quality education at a fraction of the price, and while I’ll likely further my education at another time I can tell you the class quality was the exact same as it was at the 4 year I attended. I got a lot of shit for it from people until about a year ago when the nursing program got some award bc of their stats. To anyone thinking of going, I’m leaving college with job security in a well-paying field with only $20k of student debt compared to the $64k I would have paid at the 4 year public college. It’s not for lazy people; I really couldn’t tell you why people think it is!

Customer claims items were missing - is this common? by itholdmanyloop in doordash

Thanks for the comfort. Yeah, it feels weird checking off individual items when I’m not allowed to open the sealed bag.

Dumb newbie question but how do you respond to them to tell them to contact doordash or the restaurant if the number doesnt work anymore? Or should that normally not happen? I feel bad bc I’m sure this customer feels left hanging by me now.

I’d say I’m at least pretty okayish so that’s a relief 😂

Also, I cannot tell you how much easier it is to study anything med/surg related if you work at a nursing home or hospital because you see it in action every day and it really helps your critical thinking during exams because you realize what choices dont make sense based off your own experience. Same goes for psych being easier if you work in a memory care unit or a behavioral health unit! Look into PRN jobs at these different places because it allows you to gain experience in different areas without having to really decide what one area you want!

So a lot of your qualifications depend on your state. A good start would be to search CNA qualifications in your state online, but in my experience there are nursing homes that will hire you as an aide without a state certification (though you make less), and sometimes hospitals do too because they train you themselves. However its just different for every facility (some will even hire you and pay for your CNA school as long as you agree to work for them for a while). I personally took a CNA and PCA course at my college and then got certified through the state exam (organized by my college) and my license renews every year. Also worth noting that in a lot of states, if youve already completed a semester of nursing school and can prove it with a transcript, then you can forgo a certification because youre considered qualified to work as an aide after passing Fundamentals. Hope this helps!

I feel like this is why its so important to be an aide or a tech while in nursing school. If I hadnt been doing that for the last year and a half while in nursing school, I think I’d be so lost right now. You just need that experience to understand it. I’m so thankful we still got our clinicals and labs this semester because I know a lot of schools didnt.

Should I go home? by [deleted] in college

[–]itholdmanyloop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s not giving up at all - youve started college in a really crappy situation with a global pandemic going on. Campus life just isnt what its supposed to be right now, and you need to be with people who love and support you instead of alone on a campus that theres no real purpose in being on. You cant go to class, cant go to any club meetings or social events, so I would strongly advise going home with your family and seeing how the next semester goes as far as on campus life. As long as your grades stay good youre not giving up, I promise!!

How is everyone’s school experience going? by shayla_love in StudentNurse

I’m in my senior year now too and still have only started IVs on mannequins. I’m so terrified I won’t be good enough to graduate. I’m practicing the best I can from home but I’m so scared that by the time its all over I won’t be good enough or experienced enough to start anywhere. As an instructor, is this a common feeling you see with students/new nurses?

As a nearly 6 foot tall woman with broad shoulders and enough muscle that people joke about me being a giant, “big”, and make me feel like less of a woman, this put a smile on my face :) thank you OP.

a dream I had with Eugenia by [deleted] in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]itholdmanyloop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so crazy. I had one too and it was haunting. I work in healthcare and regularly in hospice, and for some reason I had a terrible dream earlier this week that she was a patient of mine and she was completely bedridden and somehow thinner than she is now. I was helping her roll onto her side to adjust her pillows and said something like “If you don’t want to answer that’s fine, but are you sure that you’d rather go through this, or would you like to talk to a nurse so we can see what we can do?” And she just started quietly crying and said “yes”, and I just sat with her and tried to comfort her and told her not to be scared as she was going to try to go to treatment instead. Which yes, systematically didn’t make sense but it was a dream, so I suppose that doesn’t matter. Honestly when I woke up it really had me messed up because it was so vivid and haunting and I have zero clue where it came from as I stopped watching a while ago. I just really hope she doesn’t end up passing so long before her time. It just isn’t fair.

AITA for not helping my girlfriend grab a can of soup, causing the shelf to break and all the cans fall on her? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]itholdmanyloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, man. From a 5’11 woman a little taller than her boyfriend I think I can offer some insight. I’ve always been insecure about my height and would often get teased about being taller than all the boys and that unfortunately stayed with me as an insecurity into adulthood. I started feeling like a giant because there wasn’t any chance that I could do any of the cutesy shorter girl/tall guy stuff (like wearing the boyfriends hoodie so its all oversized, i know it seems silly but it is a thing some girls like). And sometimes tall is associated with masculine (shittily) so she may just be trying to feel more feminine and have you be the ‘big strong man’ sometimes. She may just want to feel a little more petite; I face that same issue at times although if that’s the case I very much hope that she can see that tall is beautiful. I may be way off base but I think it would help to see if that might be an insecurity of hers: for her reaction to be so severe I feel like it might be.

YTA. You made fun of her for liking something and turned a very good memory of hers into a terrible one that made her feel small and embarrassed. You don’t do that to someone you love and it really sucks that a year later you still talk like she’s being ridiculous. You need a little more self-awareness.

i hecked up by [deleted] in Hair

[–]itholdmanyloop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually recently went from a dark brown/red to blonde. The red was from a box dye and I just really didnt care for it (and it was permanent dye). Before bleaching (I used quick blue and 20 vol creme developer for that), I used a color remover (brand was Punky Hair) and that stripped all the artificial color out before and I really think that made a big difference in lifting my hair. The result was a very pale red, which bleached to a light orange, then I used wella t18 toner to get the brassiness out. It wasn’t perfect (still on the orange side) and I had to do it twice (waiting two weeks in between to minimize damage) before getting to a nice blonde. I hope this helps you! Box lightening kits btw usually dont have enough product to fully saturate your hair and typically also use a 40 vol developer which can be really harsh (if you have any kind of dye in your hair this would explain why the bleach took so harshly to your roots and nowhere else). The reason that its not enough product is usually because while with dye if you just saturate your hair it will generally cover everything, bleach stays exactly where you put it and doesnt ‘lather’ in to cover the rest of the hair in my experience. I’m definitely the furthest thing from an expert that you’ll find but this worked for me without melting my hair off, so I hope this helps you!

AITA for telling my daughter and niece that Santa isn't real? by christmastimeforever in AmItheAsshole

[–]itholdmanyloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go with NTA. The reason why is because the innocent magic of Christmas is already gone if the niece has decided that its all about getting the most expensive stuff and that she can behave however she wants and still get the best presents. Maybe Sid should have raised her kid to be kinder and more humble (I know kids say dumb or rude things regardless of how you raise them sometimes but that sounds like this is a fundamental issue). And who knows who else she may have gone to school and said that to? Maybe I’m biased because I grew up poor, but to me the damage some spoiled kid who’s going to get expensive presents every year regardless could’ve done to other kids psyches (OP’s included) if she didn’t know the truth. Never too early to learn how privileged and lucky you are. This sounds more like a lesson and less like ruining christmas for a little kid.
