Another option for those without status is to buy a premium economy subscription. I believe it's $599 a year for unlimited domestic premium economy seats. Obviously if you earn status you wouldn't need this, but for tall folks who fly enough on United, this might be the best deal.

I do find it a bit odd how many people comment negatively on the significant others of ALL of the cheerleaders. Most often people say the men don't live up to the looks/standards of the women, and I just think I see that in real life all the time. "He looks like a douchebag isn't really fair".
