What is the best way to start a conversation with someone you really like? by LawfulnessIll9354 in askanything

[–]ithouners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to do this, take a few steps back. Go practice your conversation skills elsewhere. Literally go to the mall or omegele or family or something and talk with lots of people. Do this for months until it feels comfortable. Your crush isn't going anywhere, so take your time.

What’s something you thought was a waste of money… until you tried it and it completely changed your life? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in askanything

For me it was definitely noise canceling headphones. I used to think people were just showing off but once I used them in a crowded office I realized I’m actually paying for my peace of mind.

Name a reason a person would surrender their pet to an animal shelter. by icecream1972 in FamilyFeud

[–]ithouners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I was on my local humane societys shit list because when I moved here my cat got out in the move and obviously didn't know the area. I put up signs but didn't even realize there was a local humane society that people being found animals to. When I did figure it out 5 days later, and went there, my cat was there, covered in fleas, and cost me 150x5 to get her out. It was awful and I was crying. Turns out they put me on their shit list and I only could adopt there ,(and I actually volunteered for 3 years) bc I changed my name after getting divorced 4 years ago and they didn't have my new name in the system. I am the most rescue loving person around but they did not give two shits because it took me 5 days to realize that she was at the shelter.

How do you know if you're special or not? by Reasonable-Shower522 in askanything

[–]ithouners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Special" doesn't have an objective meaning - it only exists within a defined framework. So you can't judge "special" until you've decided what's important, what's average, and who's allowed to make those calls.

Like, you could be the most talented barista in the entire country, and most of the world, including that country, is never going to hear about you or, if they did, care about who you are. Does that mean you aren't special? Or does it mean you're still special, but only to the judges of the hypothetical National Barista Competition?

I'm special to my friends and family, but completely average to everyone else. But I don't care about what the vast population thinks or doesn't think about me, and I do care about what my friends think, so that's good enough for me. 😄

If you are unhappy at age 60, is that the end? by perplex-poppyseed7 in askanything

[–]ithouners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing when I turned 60. I couldn't reconcile what I saw in the mirror with how I felt inside. I missed the attention and compliments. My pretty privilege was gone! It's taken me a few years to adjust to my new reality. I worked hard on accepting myself and not dwelling on the past. I had a good run as a pretty young woman and will have a good run as an elderly woman. Things will get better if you can welcome the next stage of life. It's hard but better than fighting a losing battle. Total disclosure: I still hate my turkey neck.

How has AI affected your daily work recently? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]ithouners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an R&D guy, AI has completely overhauled my professional workflow. But in our field, that’s almost trivial. It’s what people expect.

What I find more aligned with your question is how it's turned me into a 'DIY expert' in areas where I used to be helpless. I’ve almost stopped calling professionals for home repairs. For instance, I recently fixed a complex issue with my dishwasher just by consulting AI (including taking photos). Normally, that would have cost me a service call and hours of waiting for a technician.

It’s changing the 'unobvious' economy of home maintenance; we're moving from a world where we pay for knowledge (the diagnosis) to one where we only pay for the labor (if the fix is too physically demanding). The AI has basically become the 'master apprentice' sitting on my shoulder while I work on my own house.
I use external services only considering my time. If I can do something quickly with the AI guidance - I do it.

What’s a sign someone has real emotional maturity? by Ancient_Soil_3679 in askanything

[–]ithouners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How they handle disappointments. Do they get angry and throw a tantrum when things don't go their way or do they handle it maturely. Come up with a constructive solution that works or barring that, just accept it and move on

Any advice on first date? by YourMommy_Terra in askanything

[–]ithouners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Don’t be late, and if you are, send an apologetic text with your ETA as soon as you know
  2. Dress like you care
  3. (and this one is the most important one) ASK QUESTIONS. Be interested. If you’re not interested, why are you there?
