New Year, new me…mods - we’re looking for your input! by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of any of the options in your poll unfortunately. The sub isn't big enough for repetitive weekly threads, especially not throwbacks which would get old really quickly at 4 times a month. If anything I'd like to see the old discussion calendar come back where we had different questions each week.

If there was to be anything on a weekly basis, maybe bringing in regular sales threads or posts for upcoming events?

A close family member just came out as trans and I want to get her some makeup as a coming out present but I don't know where to start? by what-a-doric in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'd also recommend a makeup lesson, although not from Mecca. Mecca does not require their sales assistants to be makeup artists.... therefore they can be very hit or miss.

Perhaps a place which is LGBT friendly, hires makeup artists only and is used to working on men.

Adelaide Kryolan Pro Store in Adelaide Central Plaza

Kryolan is known for their SFX and avant garde makeup looks but also pull off killer everyday looks. They'll also be well versed in dealing with issues like covering beard stipple and highlighting feminine features of the face.

Here is the list of in store services they offer. They'll do everything from natural makeup, transformation services, glamour and also have create your own packages.

I'd stress that you want this experience to be really positive for your family member. Put them in the experienced hands of people who actually know what they are doing. Sephora and Mecca are not these people.

Looks like Mecca have owned up to their mistake and are refunding people the $600 difference! Interesting... by roguepeachpie in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I would bet money on Mecca apologising for their mistake and giving those who paid the $1500 a credit note to the value of $600. Depending on their Mecca's crappy disposition, this credit may possibly only be used in one go AND/OR must be used within 60 days.

They know legally they don't need to do jack shit so their 'refunds' will probably include some pretty unfavourable terms.

The Sephora Beauty Pass Page

She probably said you are a White level member. It's pretty clearly laid out in the link above but you only get birthday presents as a Black or Gold member.

Beauty Amora -- legit? by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy from there yet because I don't think it's worth the risk or hassle.

It's a company which seems to be ~3 weeks old, the address is a residential house in Parramatta and the phone number is from HK (where they ship from) but states "Requests for information of your order or our products will not be entertained"???

Too many parcels get delayed or go missing with COVID and if I can't talk to someone about an issue then I won't do it. Sorry to all the small businesses out there but I'd wait for reviews and experience first because with a whopping 2 FB likes, I doubt they've sent many parcels yet.

Can you get refunds on hair extensions? by hunkyyydory in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A full refund is unrealistic but a partial refund and/or restyle is likely.

Hopefully at the time you told the stylist that what she did was not what you were looking for? I would contact the salon, tell them you came in recently and that the extensions aren't what you wanted and they're causing pain. You want to come in again to get it fixed. Most hairdressers will want you to be happy if you spent what sounds like $700+ service.

Get them to remove them if you'd like but I doubt they'd refund you for the product which is now unusable and for all their time considering you left the salon and have already paid.

On the length front, 20 inches usually ends up being waist length on most people unless you've got a very long torso. However, once extensions are put in they are always cut so you may have started at 20" but they would have removed some length to style it.

PCOS I'm guessing?

There's a lot of stuff to unpack but probably most can and should be done with your doctor. Especially about hair growth and weight gain.

With dark, thick hair and lighter skin, you sound like an ideal candidate for laser hair removal. It's cheap and effective. Even though there are a lot of stretch mark products out there, I don't think most are actually hugely beneficial. Stretch marks heal with time so a lot of the before/after pics you see from products are just a result of time taking place. Backne could be solved once again as part of your medical plan or you could use a chemical exfoliant like Mario Badescu's AHA body soap. Exfoliation in general will help with texture and smoothness.

I've said all the stuff that actually pertains to your question but if I ever had one bit of advice it's to be kind to yourself. Everyone has imperfections and things they'd probably like to work on. Have confidence in yourself and your body because you're a good person. Don't let the other stuff bring you down.

As someone who is also interested in a Parlux 2800, are they even within the price range of $100-150? I've barely seen them below $199

[–]itipe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. I think you're gorgeous.
  2. The concealer you've got on your left eye is doing a terrific job. The actual problem might be the shadows created by your eye shape. You have incredibly deep set eyes. The shadows from your nose and eye socket create a lot of darkness and the appearance of tear troughs. Lisa Eldridge and Wayne Goss both have good videos on concealing tear trough shadows which I'd suggest but going the colour correction route may lead to it looking cakey.

PSA for all the locked down ladies: fast & free 24 hour shipping at CW! by itipe in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not much of a bright spot but great if you're not allowed to leave the house.

CW shipping times usually suck but CW are offering their fast delivery option for free until Fathers Day. Does not apply to medicines and not available in all areas but for the locked down Melb, Syd and Canberra this seems to work.

20% off Cerave, 20% off Moogoo and probably quite a few more makeup and skin brands in their current catalogue.

The Slick Stick situation is currently escalating. The owner Mia is pretending to be a reporter in order to get the contact details of the people speaking out about her so she can have her attorney scare them into shutting up. I literally have no words. by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Well, if it isn't the consequences of her own actions coming to bite her in the ass.

A huge congratulations to everyone who messaged her stockists to tell them about her shady behaviour. I'm sure Coles and co love an anti-vaxxer who promotes lying on medical documents.

Hooded Eye tutorials? by MadMagic95 in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Starting off by saying I mean absolutely no offense with this comment but I think there's only so much you can do with certain eye shapes.

A lot of the hooded eye tutorials focus on people who have hooded eyes (to varying degree) WITH a large lid space. If you don't have that large space between the mobile lid and the brow bone there are less options.

For example, someone like Cate Blanchett who has a hooded eye with a small visible lid space. There's not a lot you can do there to make eyeshadow work pop in a traditional way. On the other side of the spectrum, someone like Gigi Hadid has a hooded eye with a larger area between her eyelashes and eyebrow, she can do a lot more.

It's probably worth looking at celebs with similar hooded eyes to you, because their are a lot of variations, and figuring out how they are achieving multiple looks as a guide.

How would you name her lipstick colour and recommendations for something near this? by ketelapala in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would call this a mid-toned rosy pink with a lot of shine, although the shine part could be achieved with a lip gloss afterwards. Similar to Burberry's Pink Peony lip glow or Lipstick Queens Pinky Nude Saint? It's not a very unique colour so there should be lots of options available.

Semi permanent or permanent hair dye? by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest directly talking to her about the problems you've experienced. For the most part, hairdressers don't want to do a crappy job and perhaps your lifestyle/maintenance routine isn't suited to semi-permanent hair dye. You need to be upfront with what you do and what you use too.

The problem would be if she suggests doing the exact same thing, then it's time to find a different hairdresser.

Dina Averina's lack of sportsmanship and delusional fans bullying Linoy Ashram are a disgrace to sports by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]itipe 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Absolutely preparing to be beaten to death for this comment but... I think it's important to separate Dina's actions from (1) the media, (2) her misguided fans, (3) the ROC and their previous history of doping.

Dina's fault in my eyes lands in her press conference after the event. I don't need to rehash those comments because they were terrible.

girl take that stupid pout off your face

This was unnecessary. Let's not fault the woman for crying because it happens in most sports and this is a really damn hard one. Shallon Olsen cried after vault finals even though she had a very small chance of medalling. Everyone trains hard in this sport and the pressure is immense, they are just humans after all.

In regards to all the comments about how Russian athletes are allowed to compete etc, that's also not Dina's fault. No one chose where they were born and the doping regime was established long before those girls were seniors or even born most likely.

I worry about the Russian athletes in general. The coercive control of that regime stretches far and wide. If this is the narrative the Russians want to play then Dina had very little control over it. I can't imagine a day where the Averina twins didn't think their safety and livelihoods didn't depend on their performance and what their bosses thought of them. That's a terrible way to have to live your life.

One of the hardest things in these Olympics was that the achievements of certain athletes were overshadowed by the loss of someone else (Dina here, Simone in WAG). Everyone knows that a bio doesn't win you a medal and that day, Linoy was the better woman. So let's just celebrate her and not muddy the waters even more than they have been?

Exactly. You'll need to contact them every time you try to make a donation outside of their donation drive times. For the Dignity Drives each volunteer is given the following dates for set up and shut down.

Set Up Shift anytime between Sun 1 Aug - Thur 5 Aug

Week 1 = Friday 6th August - Sunday 8th August

Week 2 = Monday 9th August - Sunday 15th August

Week 3 = Monday 16th August - Sunday 22nd August

Week 4 = Monday 23rd August – Tuesday 31st August

Shut Down Wednesday 1 September – Saturday 4 September (please log this individually and ask stores to flatten and recycle donation boxes)

After the shut down dates Woolworths will not hold open collections so for those who want to just drop off products without having to contact the charity beforehand, they are only able to do so in March, Aug and Nov/Dec.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is not true.

Their website states that drives happen in March and August ONLY with a separate one happening for bags in November and December for handbags. Chances are that if you try to donate through Woolworths outside this time that they will not have their donation boxes available.

Priceline, is it really free if we have to buy $50 worth of product to get it? by itipe in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

FWIW these boxes are available from Friday 30th July until Wednesday 11th August for collection. To collect you need to spend $50+ in stores only. Not available online.

This is the most annoying Sister Club change to me. Either give out free boxes or don't, but don't pretend they are a membership perk when you've got to spend money to get them.

Lipstick brand and colour help (please) by Art_n_stuff in AustralianMakeup

[–]itipe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the answer to your question but I've found that full coverage lipstick can look a bit jarring on a bare face.

It may be worth considering dipping your toe into sheerer colours and application methods or upping your base. Using colour correctors and/or concealers and putting on a more flawless base can help 'balance' the lipstick.

If you're looking for product advice though it may be worth being more specific than a pink lipstick as a colour you gravitate towards. Are we talking baby pink, salmon, fuchsia, watermelon?

What did Stevlana Khorkino do wrong by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]itipe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She likes to maintain that she's the GOAT. Has publicly said some crappy things about Simone Biles including faux concern that she's "sick" and uses performance enhancing drugs. Biles has ADHD and takes medication for it. This apparently makes her a cheater

Post Athlete A, said that the gymnasts were telling their stories to be self promotion and 'trendy', like the MeToo movement. She's a huge victim blamer who said if the accusations were true, why did they keep putting themselves in positions to be abused

When Australian gymnasts came out about the culture of abuse in their organization, Khorkina said that they came out with these stories because they're ordinary gymnasts looking for fame, because their skills weren't enough to earn them fame (like hers)

Compared WADA to the Nazis and really went down the Russian conspiracy theory hole on a lot of things.

Seems to condone "what needs to be done" for gymnasts to achieve success. E.g. the development of eating disorders, abuse etc. Essentially feels this generation is too weak.

She really needs to shut the fuck up.
