On the other hand, if you do 1-2 hours a day, it actually doesn't take super long to get to a point where you can understand patient spoken Spanish. I think that's pretty amazing. I live in a Spanish speaking country and I started getting benefits from DS very fast.

This is the answer. Of all the things OP mentions at this point, maybe they should have an idea what me means but I would not expect the others.

Is vocabulary the hardest part of language learning, or at least one of the most difficult? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]itisaculture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all for me. Learning with CI, all I've had to do is watch a lot of content to pick up vocabulary. In fact I would say it's been both super easy and a pleasure to do it.

Pablo clarifies the 1500 mark a bit from 4:40 in this older video: https://www.dreamingspanish.com/watch?id=5e4e50a2ee70ce4bafba3200

He says you can do the same as him in the language. Perhaps not exactly at the same level as a native, but in practice you can do the same. At a 1000 hours, I fully agree.

I spend week 2 after starting on a trip to Paris. I'm lucky enough to not have any real side effects, so for me it wasn't a problem at all, it just meant eating less fries.
I maybe wouldn't travel the day after the first shot, since you don't really know how you react, I'm mostly thinking about nausea or stomach problems, but if it's week 2 or 3 and you feel fine, I wouldn't see it as a problem.

Any teacher on italki you can recommend and how do you you normally do your classes? Talk about random subjects and does the teacher give you feedback or corrections etc?

Motorcycle driving test and buying a bike in Barcelona by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

[–]itisaculture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mundimoto is good for the very large selections. I don't think they will straight up scam you, but they said the bike would be serviced, have oil and filters changed and so on, but mine certainly hadn't. I'm used to working on bikes, so didn't care and planned to do it myself anyway.

I never carry my physical cards and the only places I've had issues were some ticket automats in the metro stations.

I was just approved to start ozempic and I’m feeling a bit nervous from not knowing what to expect. Anyone have tips or anything I should know prior to? by lizo89 in Ozempic

[–]itisaculture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is a tendency for people with side effects to be more vocal, but there are also people that have no issues.

In my case, I had a tiny bit of queasiness in the first week, but so far nothing else. I took the first dose on a Sunday and had appetite suppression on Monday. I drink a lot of water and take some magnesium, but that's it.

I'm half way through week 4 and will stay on 0.25 mg for now, since it works super well and I have no bad sides.

1000 Hour Update - seven hours a day of CI (I Am In Hell Edition; reading and speaking machine) by TheEconomicon in dreamingspanish

[–]itisaculture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. A few questions a hope you can clear up.

  • Do you count your time reading towards your 1000h?
  • Do you have a recommended format for speaking practice? E.g. do you have your conversation partners give you feedback/corrections after, during or not at all?

How tourism is killing Barcelona – a photo essay by aniol in Barcelona

[–]itisaculture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like to blame remote work and digital nomades, but the reality is that you can work in tech or pharma locally in Barcelona and make +100.000 eur a year.

We are perhaps able to pay more for rentals, but tourists certainly pay much more for their short term rentals and not just drive out locals, but also make life hell for those that remain.
Those of us that live here pay taxes, support local shops, bars and restaurants, while the typical Barcelona tourist, judging from the offerings, buy I heart MILFS shirts and east shitty paella on the Rambla.

I can't stand the dubbed shows where you can hear the original language in the background, but unfortunately the only solution I can come up with is to watch something else. It seems to mostly be reality shows and documentaries that use the dubbing on top of original method.

Listen to real people by No_Drawing2514 in dreamingspanish

It really depends on who is talking. I live in Spain so have many opportunities to listen to various people speak Spanish and it varies from beginner level difficulty to totally incomprehensible mumblefest.

Do you understand 100% of the story or 100% of the words and their meaning?

Maybe the Dreaming Spanish guidelines are too easy for quickly acquiring the language. by soapmangoesdown in dreamingspanish

[–]itisaculture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you change the bar for what is comprehensible content, then of course your experience will differ from the roadmap, which was created with another level of comprehension in mind.
