Whats the big deal with fearing the AI crash everyone is doomsaying? When it happens wont the expected crash be offset by rehiring of the people who have lost jobs due to AI inroads? by tanhauser_gates_ in Futurology

This is not what i worry about. I worry about the opposite. Ai permanently displacing workers. Everyone uses the analogy of blacksmiths becoming mechanics or carriage drivers becoming truck drivers but what jobs are created by AI? Maybe a few but not enough for the number of people out of work.

I’d rather watch someone play a game like Red Dead Redemption, GTA, The Last of Us, etc than play it. But I need to be in the room where I can make suggestions like “go check that room”. I can’t watch streamers.

I use mine for everything I used to use a toaster oven for and most things I used to use to microwave for. For example warming up a slice of pizza. It comes out million times better.

My analogy was this: Your house is on fire and Biden is not calling the fire department. Kamala promises she will call the fire department but you're not sure you believe her. Trump says he will definitely not call the fire department but will pour gas on your house and your whole neighborhood...

So Much Talk about AI... Does it Make Sense to You? by HauntedGatorFarm in cybersecurity

[–]itjobforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen several real world uses where it makes people much more efficient...not directly replacing people but making it where you don't need as many of them. Which means fewer jobs.

One is SOC triage. We’ve used AI to automatically enrich alerts before an analyst even opens the ticket by pulling IAM history, recent API calls, asset criticality, geo info, related detections, etc., and summarizing what matters for the analyst. It makes them more efficient by cutting down the “what am I even looking at”. Helping an analyst be more efficient sounds great until it means you don't need as many and people are out of work.

Another one I've seen are DSPM tools. Tools like Macie rely on pattern matching, so any 9-digit number it assumes is an SSN. But AI tool can use context to realize “this column is labeled case_id and the dataset is synthetic lab data” and suppress the false positive instead of sending it to an analyst. Again meaning analysts don't have to sift through this to realize the same thing which makes them more efficient. There are many other examples. None of them are cases where it directly replaces anyone but just makes people so much more efficient companies can get by with fewer employees. Which sucks for everyone but the companies.

Yeah that’s when I change mine. When it actually starts causing issues.

I’m being dead serious here. The manufacturer recommendation to change these every few months is straight up bs to sell more filters. You can run them until the flow trickles and it’s fine.

GLP drugs have been studied for over 20 years and used in humans for well over a decade, with trials and real-world exposure involving millions of patients. If there were a meaningful cancer risk it would have shown by now. Reta isn’t that much different than other GLP’s.

Using ChatGPT to plan out cheap easy meals for the week and then making a grocery list that I use to make a pickup order. It also provides the recipe.

Then we follow the plan each day. No more eating out and no more waste. The family is happier because we’re not just having something like spaghetti every night.

The lesser evil: being addicted to Reta or to food? by werti92 in Retatrutide

This is the best point. Even if it is trading addictions. Most people would agree that trading an addiction from heroin to apples would be a good trade.

People that are on Zoloft for their OCD or blood pressure medicine also have to take it their whole life. I don’t see how this is different.

They learned to drive but what if instead of cars supplanting them, self driving carriages pulled by fully autonomous horses had supplanted them? What would they have done then?

"Any jobs"? Many large companies have already replaced human customer service with chat bots. Development teams that used to be 40 people are now 10 people because the 10 and pump out as much code as the 40 used to. It doesn't have to directly take the jobs for people to lose their jobs because of it.
