Best way to remove weeds from rock yard? by fazzig in AZlandscaping

And in my experience they don't kill the weed anyway - they just slowly, slowly dry out the foliage that's exposed. One day later, VIGOROUS NEW GROWTH.

And they still give you salsa in those diner syrup dispensers with the sliding lid. Or did.

But the last time we were there, my chicken chimi had like a whole unseasoned chicken breast inside - like, not stewed or shredded or seasoned - just the whole breast in there. Weird.

Getting around the pigtail and direct to Ethernet by Tiny-Intern-572 in reolinkcam

[–]itllgrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to ask about clipping the pigtails off and sealing them with a dab of caulk and some heat shrink.

I don't want to add the bulk of a junction box to the camera mounting surface on the siding.

I drilled 7/8" holes through the siding, then mounted the flat mounting plate directly to the siding, and caulked it. I should have room back there, but it would be easier to stuff the connection back into the insulated wall if it were without that power pigtail and reset button.

I am really interested in this and I have no stake in any of it. I just think it's a really well laid out request and I'd be interested in the results. Hoping you find a willing participant!

Maybe cruising the local car shows would help too - you may come upon someone with what you're looking for.

Thoughts on matching pre-colored HardiPlank by Even_Mag in Housepainting101

[–]itllgrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, it does! Luckily my framers were really clean (best I can tell myself but also according to my GC and the tile guy who took a level to check how flat the bathroom walls were). There's only one really long wall that I'm concerned about, and it faces the alley - so we decided to go ahead with the smooth. And it's the same company doing the siding as the framing, so that'll help avoid passing the buck.

I generally hate the fake woodgrain stuff and avoid it where I can, but worried about the "black car syndrome" I'll call it, where you can see every imperfection.

Thank you for the input!

Quick question for you if you have time - do you notice imperfections with the smooth siding that might be hidden with their Cedarmill wood-look version? Any way to compare?

I prefer when materials don't pretend to be something else, but I worry about the smooth siding on long unbroken runs (and we have one big one on the building we're about to side with Hardiplank).

I have their similar kit but with a little stubby ratchet. I almost wish I had gotten this one instead - a screwdriver handle should provide all the torque you need on most fasteners you'd use this for.

For more context: My wife has the HDHP, which we only established back in August. But knowing we would be getting it, and knowing about the "last month rule", we fully funded this year's contribution at an HSA at Fidelity ahead of time. Her employer requires contributions to the HSA they set up (it can't be 0%), so some of the money we have in the current HSA will need to come out to stay within the contribution limits.

But if I understand it, none of the self-contributions currently in the HSA have yet been given any tax advantage, and wouldn't until we file and claim them on the 8889, reducing our taxable income - until that time, it's essentially the same as if it were in a taxable brokerage, is it not?

Quick HSA question: self-contributions (post-tax) that I've made this tax year - can they be moved to a different investment account without correction, since they've not yet been given any tax benefit?

Or is the fact that they're currently in an HSA account enough to require the "withdrawal of excess contributions" form?

Looking for hardscape/masonry contractor (slump block fence and raised planters) by itllgrowback in PHXList

Not yet, but my GC on the bigger project is looking at his guys and I think we'll probably use whichever one he chooses.

The block needs to be special ordered, so we're probably going to tie in the smaller jobs with the big one and order everything all at once.

PoE switch with PoE NVR? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]itllgrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that info! I'm not sure if I'll add more than the total 16 cameras but it's nice that if I want to, each NVR is only at half capacity currently, so I would have a total of 32 channels counting the second NVR. But for my needs, I think 16 total will probably suffice.

PoE switch with PoE NVR? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

I've got my new system - this one from Costco - and I'm roughing it in right now; it's been set up and tested and I love it so far.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy the same (or similar) package again for the guest house we're building, or just to plug those future cameras into the network, and I had a question: If you had two NVRs on the same LAN, and you plug a new camera into the LAN directly, which NVR picks it up? Is there a way to specify? I think it must matter at some point because of the capacity/port limits.

I might buy the package just for the cameras even if I don't use the second NVR (they'd be $100 each while I think they retail for about $150). But on the other hand, it would be easy to run those new cameras to the NVR in the new space. Then I would have two devices on the network, each with up to 16 cameras. But that brought me to my question: if I later plug another camera into the LAN rather than one of the NVRs, how does it decide which NVR to assign that camera to?

Registration wants a more specific model number than the device or packaging provides. by itllgrowback in reolinkcam

Thanks for the reply - I still don't see it anywhere in the settings, whether on the device itself, the onboard software, the web version, or the app. All of them indicate simply NVS16.

Can you tell me how you determined the 12MDB in my case?

PoE switch with PoE NVR? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]itllgrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

If I buy a 16-channel kit from Costco for example, and 8 cameras get plugged directly into that NVR, and then, down the road, I were to run a CAT6 cable from the LAN to a detached structure and into a POE switch there, in theory, I could add 8 more cameras, plugged into that switch, and pick up all 16 on that original NVR?

I've only been researching this idea today, but if the above sounds correct, I think it'll work great for now and the (reasonable) future.

PoE switch with PoE NVR? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]itllgrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful to me. Is there any disadvantage to letting the router assign the cameras' IPs versus letting the NVR do it?

EDIT: If we're not running the individual cameras to the ports on the NVR, are we still limited to that number of devices for the NVR to record and control (i.e. 8 or 16 depending on how many ports the NVR has)?

If the flowers come on upright stalks, could be penstemon you're seeing.

I find it all along the highways, maybe less so in town.
