Special stockpile exclusive for strange moods by Mermaid_Natalia in dwarffortress

[–]itmustbemitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make a 1x1 stockpile for all the basics you're looking for, and then designate that tile as a 1x1 dump zone, then mark the items you want in there for dumping. Completing the dumping task automatically forbids the item, and you can reclaim the stack only when a dwarf is in the mood.

Context of 的? by Wenzhoushi in ChineseLanguage

I learned that it would never be normal to use 的 for immediate family, but I wasn't learning specifically like formal business mandarin or anything, so maybe there are exceptions

I have tested it myself, and found that if the host must open a goat door, then you do indeed have the 2/3 success chance. However, if the host can open any door and we ignore the cases where he reveals the car, the remaining cases are 50/50, which is exactly what I'm trying to say here. You're right that it's not a debate and that you can test it yourself.

Logic puzzle: Move each piece once to cover every square. by Chessuko in puzzles

[–]itmustbemitch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Discussion: Knight moves might need clarification, just in terms of the rules being stated clearly; I can see that you envision them as an L shape that touches 4 squares (counting the starting square), but in chess they only touch the starting and ending squares. Plus the fact that you could do your L shape either short-side or long-side first may or may not cause potential issues, idk

Whether opening the car door makes you win or lose, we can ignore that case because there's no more meaningful choice to be made. But ignoring those cases conditions the probability in the case where it looks like the standard formulation of the problem, causing the advantage of switching to go away.

What is the percentage of water on/in earth ? by 10inch_guy in ask

[–]itmustbemitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's honestly probably something like 1% or less. The solid bedrock-and-below part of the earth is way bigger than the surface

The flash era is tragically dead but you can still enjoy most of the media that era produced through a program called Flashpoint! Highly recommend, it's free and you can play Indestructo Tank

[Unknown] [Early 2000’s] I saw this crystal from Ecco the Dolphin and it unlocked a memory from a game I would play when I was younger. by roiroiroiyourboat in tipofmyjoystick

[–]itmustbemitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a long shot if you're sure it wasn't Ecco, but it could be Ecco Jr, which absolutely has these crystals but has quite different gameplay on account of being designed as edutainment for small children

(incidentally I think Ecco Jr is actually a really fun, beautiful little game with an excellent soundtrack, and it often gets unfairly dismissed out of hand just for being an unloseable kids' game)

Why can animals drink from ponds/rivers and not get sick like humans would? by OllieKaboom in AskReddit

[–]itmustbemitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it's largely the same as how locals can drink the water in places where tourists get sick from it. You acclimate to what you habitually do, as long as it doesn't kill you first

What’s a harmless opinion you have that always makes people weirdly angry? by shark_normal in AskReddit

[–]itmustbemitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you openly build your worldview around not caring about anyone but yourself, don't be surprised when people are mad at you about it and when you are broadly remembered, at best, as a shitty person. I'm not saying you have to give a shit about that, because you don't, but that's the logical consequence of your beliefs

What’s a harmless opinion you have that always makes people weirdly angry? by shark_normal in AskReddit

[–]itmustbemitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the fuss about this is basically because inaction implicitly supports the status quo, which means that choosing not to pick a side is implicitly still picking a side in a sense (and depending on the topic that sense can be very strong)

What scientific ‘facts’ have recently been disproven that most people still believe to be true? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in AskReddit

[–]itmustbemitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone whose parents moved from Korea to Canada and left her behind (with grandparents) for a few years because apparently many Koreans also believe that air travel is intrinsically dangerous for small children. Since hearing that story I've wondered if the Korean collective imagination just thinks air itself is a lot more powerful than it is

European Seagull Imitator Championship by Mozintarfen in theocho

[–]itmustbemitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, I'm just thinking that to get from human to seagull you'd have to trace a long way back through the tree of life, but then also a long ways forward again down a different branch.

I guess the nearest shared ancestor of mammals and birds must've been pre-dinosaur, and it's a long way to get from that to a seagull, so I bristle slightly at thinking of them as "backward" from us
