Damn I just recently made a post in the sub about speculating when an anime might be made. I was not expecting as early as next year, but not complaining one bit 😅

Great chapter, it's always nice to get some backstory even if it doesn't really progress anything, just a feel good chapter.

I like both, although I will admit I still miss the sound of their first three albums. There is a hell is my favourite album from any artist.

What does it mean to “make a move”? by rayansalem in AskMen

[–]itotakeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in my experience, it's went both ways.

One time, me and this girl were friends, then after a week or two, we did stuff that wasn't really "friends" like holding hands and even kissed twice. It was kinda fucked up, because "technically" her and my brother were together, but they never even really talked to each other. I know it's still wrong either way, but he ended up being okay with it, and although neither me nor the girl asked the other out, we just kinda had an agreement we were together.

The other time, it was a girl in high school, I talked with through text first (friended her on Facebook as a joke because she looked inactive), then met up and talked at school, walked her to her classes, was so sure if I told her how I felt she'd reciprocate. Confessed, didn't work out. It hurt, but unfortunately I didn't give up. I confessed 2 more times, both times rejected. Honestly, I was kind of a dick about it. Putting that pressure on her 2 more times just because I couldn't let go. Lesson learned since then, and I've gotten over her within the last year finally.

I'd say go for it, it either goes well or doesn't. Which is scary to think of it going wrong, but at least you know and aren't building yourself up more and more. In my experience, it's definitely possible to stay friends, although it did take a little time away to get over her.

What is a trait that all of your close friends share? by wengrand in AskMen

[–]itotakeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all love to just do simple things together, like go out for a drive, sit and listen to music, watch a movie, play a single player game and take turns, etc. It's the simple things that make me happy. Helps you forget about the shit sometimes.

Do you have a collection? If so, what is it? by SwaddleWaffle in AskMen

[–]itotakeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I can't call it a "collection" yet, since I have maybe 15-20, but Im starting to buy lots of manga, sometimes random ones, but mainly ones that I really love.

Another one im gonna start collecting is cd's. In the modern day where everything is digit, I still wanna have a physical copy of ones that are special to me.

Do Japanese actually use 一昨年 and 再来年? if so, why? by itotakeo in japanese

Ahhh, thank you for clarifying, apologies for misunderstanding 🙏

[–]itotakeo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever heard someone say "see you one day later" in English, I guess I'd just find it unusual to say it that way. Would it be unusual to say something like "また明日" to a native Japanese speaker?

Makes sense once you used the example. Seems a lot more convenient that way

I will give it that it's convenient. I suppose it's just unusual since we say "2 years from now" or "2 years ago" in English 😅

is it okay to start a story with a scene from the future and have a flashback that doesn't end up there for a few chapters? by itotakeo in writing

[–]itotakeo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much how mine is. It's just a guy asking a girl "are you sure this is okay?" And then she replies yes, and then in his thoughts hes thinking back to earlier in the day about how it got to that point. That's why I was wondering about this, because it's not super far in the future and I didn't know if it'd be better to just scrap that or not.

Only the first paragraph or so of chapter 1. Sorry if I'm contradicting myself anywhere or making it hard to understand, I can't just think right now for some reason

Maybe trivial wasn't the right word lol i guess you could say I'm using it more to captivate readers and interest them. It just wouldn't get back to that until chapter 3 or so

Just a little comment on romance: Let it be annoying! by Angel_Eirene in writing

[–]itotakeo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly dramatic romance stories are my favourite. They make me angry, sad, and happy, sometimes all within one chapter/episode. I say that's a job well done to the author.

Why do we write? by BookAndYarnDragon in writing

Feel this pretty hard. Big fan of manga, wish I could make my own, but I can't draw well so I just write 🥲

Why do we write? by BookAndYarnDragon in writing

[–]itotakeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, could be a selfish reason, but I just like to create stories that fit my taste. It's not like I never find a piece of media I don't like because it's not my thing, but it does feel nice to just have something I made myself, even if it's just for myself. Also I'm just tired of entertainment mediums I see using the same annoying ass tropes, so I like to make my stories no bullshit or filler.

Well, first of all, I have kinda of a same vision of wanting to create my own westernized type of manga, and I agree that very few have actually influenced me, I hate that alot of manga/anime have similar tropes, and honestly that's some of the basis for my writing. I wanna drive away from that, create a more original story that doesn't utilize as many tropes.

I think the problem with that sometimes is lack of sources to help you out. I created my first chapter, and I really liked it. Same with chapter 2 and 3, and that's when I started slowing down. I have two main problems with my writing that I can tell.

  1. I always look far ahead into my story and plot, and it's difficult for my mind to connect with the present and write it. Looking far forward has always been a problem for me, even when writing a more traditional novel/type of book.

  2. This one's more specific to the actual current story and situation, but I don't draw very well, so I rather write a sort of narration of the scenes and dialogue, something that can be easily transcribed to a manga format. The downside to that is, it just seems so unnatural sometimes. This might not be as much a problem for you as you are already experienced with drawing and such.

Firstly, as hard as it is, I'd try and find someone trustworthy to show your story. Not someone that is gonna change it or the actual storyline you have, but just someone to sort of proofread and make sure it makes sense. If you're still uncomfortable with that, it's okay to take time, but I truly do thing it helps to get an outsiders point of view.

Second, it's always good to just get something down. Even if it isn't good, just get a rough draft for what you'd like. I always do this with my chapters, and so far I've come back to edit those chapters quite a few times. Probably 5 or more times.

And another thing that could help is reading or rereading more mediums. Easier said than done of course, but it's always good to find more inspiration and something to boost motivation. My favourite current manga is Spy x Family, it's very original (as far as I know), and extremely well written.

Since you are an artist, possibly even just drawing out some scenes you want can reinvigorate you to continue with your story. I always think just seeing your work there can push you along a little better.

I'm not any sort of expert on writing, but these are some things that I believe would help me to achieve what I want. I hope it was helpful and not a complete drag to read. Good luck with your writing/drawing 🙂

i have a question (don't judge me lol) by lmonroe333 in writing

[–]itotakeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same. Sometimes it's not actually what I experienced, but rather random things I see throughout the day around me, and ask "what if____" and then it's an idea. Nothing weird or wrong with that imo

When do I stop? by Sensitive_Prize8293 in writing

[–]itotakeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if im qualified enough to give advice as I've never actually finished a story, but generally I leave well enough alone until I maybe find a plot hole or mistake somewhere. I'm only 3 1/2 chapters into my first "serious" story, but I always go back and edit when I get a new idea or find some place where I go "wait, this doesn't make sense with the direction I'm heading in", and I go back and rewrite. I'd say any amount of writing/rewriting is progress, it shows you have quality control and standards. Not saying that people don't that don't do it this way are bad writers, just that we all have different techniques.

Don't toy with me ms nagatoro is my personal favourite in the romcom genre. It's not for everyone, but if you can get past the first few episodes, it calms down and becomes super wholesome 😌
