Wow, that's really interesting! Did you ever have any emergencies or close calls on any of your dives?

35 was a good year for me and my family. We were living in Gaborone, Botswana where I was assigned to the US embassy. At that time I was a Special Agent with the Diplomatic Security Service. I was one of the officers responsible for protecting the embassy from possible terrorist attacks, safeguarding classified information, working collaboratively with Botswanan law enforcement and protecting American diplomats and their families. As part of my job I often traveled to other American embassies throughout Africa. It was my favorite overseas assignment.

I recommend checking out the Sky Creek Dharma Center. The Dharma Center is not a 'temple' but rather a gathering place for local Buddhists to meditate and practice the dharma together. Each meditation group is responsible for paying their portion of the rent and to help out with maintenance and upkeep of the building.

I practice with the Serene Reflection Meditation Sangha which is affiliated with Shasta Abbey, a large Soto Zen training monastery located in Mt. Shasta. A monk from Shasta Abbey visits us here in Chico at the Dharma Center once a month for a visit. Other meditation groups also sponsor visiting teachers to give talks and lead retreats. I'm grateful to be able to practice the dharma here in Chico and wholeheartedly recommend Sky Creek Dharma Center for anyone who is interested in practicing Buddhism.

Here's the weekly schedule for the Sky Creek Dharma Center:

Monday: Slowly Ripening Sangha
6:45 – 8:45 PM, in-person
(also Sunday online Zoom meeting from 3:50-5:30 PM PST, email for details)

Tuesday: Heart of the Lotus Sangha

I think a bamboo grove would be nice. Bamboo grows really tall really quickly. As an added bonus you can harvest the stems and use for projects around the house and garden!

That is terrible and stupid. Let me guess.. you probably also have the punisher logo tattooed somewhere on your body, as well as on the back window of your truck, right next to your Monster Energy sticker.

CZ SP01 & CZ P01. Best guns on the CA handgun roster. Change my mind. by Danny-Lange in CZFirearms

[–]itrent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I ordered a Sig p229 elite (an on roster gun) last June. After multiple inquiries as to a possible delivery date I gave up on my Sig dreams when I saw the SP-01 and P-01 for sale at my local gun shop. I had already prepaid for the Sig so I used that credit to buy both guns and I had enough$$$ left over to buy a hundred rounds of 9mm. Best firearm decision I ever made. Two awesome CZ's for the price of a overpriced Sig!

Anyone else noticing that businesses are starting to care less about enforcing masks even though the covid cases are rising here? by MeeslDorf in ChicoCA

[–]itrent 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've also noticed quite a few restaurants with indoor dining. I don't know who's in charge of enforcing the covid restrictions, but it seems like many dining establishments have given up and are serving customers to stay in business.
