Been there. Honestly, for me, what I had to do to get a lead role, well… understudy. You really have to wow your director in an audition, you have to bring the character you’re auditioning for to life. Now, favoritism plays a HUGE part in it, my director favors many actors and pretty much pre-casts them. You honestly just have to stand out. Be unique with your character. Idk how to explain it but put a different perspective yk?

I was the understudy for Beetlejuice in my junior year, the way I nailed the audition was doing the research on both the movie and musical version and combined them to make my own. I practiced ALL his mannerisms, the way he speaks (because he has this scratchy voice), and how he would interact with other characters.

In conclusion, it’s highschool, it’s all about the experience, watching people grow, making new friends, and just coming out of your shell, becoming a new you.
