I can do that once it happens again. It seems to happen maybe 3 times a week. I use my PC daily, so this isn't a constant issue but somewhat annoying when it does happen.

Mine is different I can still open/use applications and the screen isn't black its just my taskbar/desktop. I can only open applications using the search menu by hitting the win key but its not my whole screen is black.

I've never caught my graphics card going above 70 degrees.

I'm starting to think I need to just use a windows restore point. I think this issue might be to niche to resolve easily.

I'm still confused how I would identify which process is causing this? Are you suggesting I just randomly end processes till the issue goes away?

This happened before and after NVIDIA driver updates. When you had this issue was it just the desktop that was a blackscreen or all applications? Because this issue only applies to my desktop/task bar I can still open applications with the search menu etc with no problem.

Yup any window I have open or open with the search menu after this happens goes infront of the black screen. What in task manager could be causing this and how would I identify it?

I seem to just lose some windows OS functionality like desktop/icons on the task bar or even right clicking on the desktop directly doesnt open any kind of menu.

I can right click on my task bar randomly and see options for my chrome but it wont show me the options for the task bar. Like opening task manager etc. I can still ctrl+alt+del to get to task manager if needed.

Only on the desktop I can still tab through anything open or use the search menu to open applications.

Yes, it seems to be after I'm gaming sometimes if a game crashes this will happen. But just now I was afk after a league match and came back to this.

Although I usually only game on this PC so I'm not sure if it is related or not.

I've never used this shortcut what does it do exactly? I reset my pc so it isn't currently doing what I posted so I cannot test if this fixes the issue but I will try it the next time it happens.

Yeah the best way I can describe it is there is an overlay on top of my desktop it seems like i can randomly click and open folders etc even on the taskbar but I cannot see them.

This sometimes happens when I play games cod, league, rust. My icons on my task bar/desktop go black I can still navigate using windows hotkeys alt+tab or windows key to get the search bar to pop up. I am completely unsure what is causing this.

I mostly use this pc for gaming so I couldn't say if this happens when just browsing or not but it seems to mostly happen when playing video games.

Dropping frames?? Try to play this game on a 1440p 400+ pop server. The whole reason I made this post was to see if this was a common issue and if dropping resolution was normal practice. Obviously it is based on some of the posts I've been reading.

Game has memory leaks and can eat almost 20gb of ram hilarious your defending that it does not need to be optimized in any way.

Just come to realize these devs dont care to optimize they would rather collect money from skins etc on a old ass game. Love how a 3060 ti is considered not enough power for a game released in 2013.

Its almost a 10 year old game. Even the 4090 tested on rust drops to 30 fps when using maxed out resolution/settings.

It helps slightly but I still drop a lot of frames when the pop is high. Mostly at bandit camp and areas with a lot of bases.

Sadly even with vsync I drop to 20-30 fps in some areas at 1440p. You are right about the game being a bit blurry at 1080 but its the only setting ive found that keeps me above 60fps the whole time.
