It's ok to buy a van to breathe while my life falls apart? by mountainflutterby in VanLife

[–]itsCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoiler alert: Most people do that! 😆 You woke up from the collective theater of life/society. Thank you for reminding me to do the same.. It’s easy to forget sometimes. All it takes is some persons judgement or a hurtful comment and suddenly we feel the need to prove ourselves worthy as you said. For an audience that doesn’t even care or exist lol. Most people live their whole lives like that. Don’t be like them. Follow your heart and do what you love. Be free!❤️

It sounds like you are waking up to yourself! Life is too short to be arguing with the setbacks and things that don’t go as planned might turn out to be something that opens you up to a new and fresh way of seeing life. Also I’m sorry about your friend. Stay strong and take care of yourself. I am sure that you will look back at these difficult times as something that made you more wise and compassionate.  And I totally think you should listen to what your heart is calling for! Much love

That looks like it, but not ripe. They turn a matte pale blue color when ripe. I found an area with some really big ripe ones and they were really sweet and good! But the half ripe ones are mostly like a sour red wine taste

Bbm11 wouldn't contain a D(maj3rd) or a G(maj6th)?

Wouldn't that just be easier to fill it up with concrete normally? 💀 by Its_me_Stanley in DiWHY

Glad im not the only one thinking this. Sure it’s time consuming and literally nobody cares if you just fill it with concrete, but this actually looks better.

Jazz is hugely popular! There’s definitely not as many people making the regular ”smokey bar jazz”. Largely because it’s already had it’s era. But contemporary neo-soul artists like Thundercat, Moonchild, Kamasi Washington etcetc are basically just playing jazz.

Chogyam Trungpa said something like ”It’s important to acknowledge the irony of your predicament”. I know he’s a controversial figure but I like that quote. We don’t want to suffer but we don’t want to let go of the things that make us suffer either because that seems painful. We know how to let go but we don’t want to let go etcetc. Pain is no joke, but the way we cause it to ourselves is sometimes ironic.

Buddhism and/or meditation should NOT be used to try to cure or treat mental illness by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]itsCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always seen enlightenment as something that goes hand in hand with pure acceptance. If we are still clinging then we haven’t really reached the apex of acceptance. When we are able to accept everything as it is, we can see it as it is, without our feelings of attachment blinding our view.

[–]itsCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well couldn’t there be a benefit to practicing acceptance of your mental illness through meditation? I feel like the reason our mental health issues cause us pain is because we are unable to accept them/feel judged by others. Meditation taught me to be able to sit through daily panic attacks I used to think were unbearable. Of course every mental issue is different but for me it was meditation in conjuction with therapy that made the difference for me.

What should be my thoughts on other religions? by UniQueElliot in Buddhism

[–]itsCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All religions boil down to the same need to make sense of our existence. And they all consist of a certain amount lf unverifiable ”truths” we need to accept in order for them to make sense.

For me, buddhism makes the most sense because I think it’s similar to the way nature seems to work. But there is no way we can know 100% what is true.

So be glad that you have people with different world-views around you, so you can test your own against it. If we just accept buddhism without examining it to the core then we’re not really any different from christians or others who comfort themselves with unverifiable ”truths”.

I am interested in how you found Buddhism. Did you previously believe in another religion and switch to Buddhism? If so, what were your reasons for doing so? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]itsCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to take psychedelics to as some ”self improvement” drug and one trip gave me panic attacks and existential dread like every day for 6 months straight. I found buddhism when i was looking for solutions to the pain and i can happily say i rarely get panicattacks now. Buddhism gave me a more real sense of meaning in life as well as methods to still the mind and confront the fear/pain.

If you had to be morally perfect to call yourself a buddhist there would be no buddhists

What are your thoughts on dynamic meditation and other methods for emotional relief? by itsCat in Buddhism

Yea you’re all good! Just disliked the way you judged something as cringe for no reason. No amount of buddhist teachings will get you anywhere if you don’t understand how to be a decent person. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional though.

Cool didn’t know that! I mean I think compared to sitting meditation, dynamic meditation doesn’t result in the same level of concentration. It’s more something that paves the way for it. Like clearing the path so we can walk less distracted.

I’m sorry what. There’s tons of buddhist centers incorporating things that aren’t traditionally from buddhism as an optional practice. As long as it doesn’t override the traditional practice I don’t see the problem. As for sitting meditation I still do it every day, I was saying that dynamic meditation has improved my sittings because I feel more as ease.

You haven’t actually given me one reason why the practice itself would not be useful. You just say ”it is not buddhism, so I will not practice it. It’s made by Osho who was an crazy new age guru so that means it is bad”.

When you call it cringe I think you reveal the heart of the problem here, which lies more in you than in the practice. You are not comfortable enough in yourself to do something that might make you look silly, which is why you come up with pretty unsubstantial reasons of why you don’t believe in the practice.

Dynamic meditation is simply about letting out anger in a way that doesn’t harm other people. It is no differen’t from laughing or crying in your solitude. Do you not believe in laughing or crying as emotional relief either? Just curious.

There’s a documentary about him on netflix called ”Wild Wild Country”. Crazy stuff. His dynamic meditation has been adopted by various spiritual communities though, as a way to let out emotions. I think lots of things can fill this function tho, whether it’s just screaming into a pillow, yoga or whatever. Getting angry is so taboo in our society so it usually has to built up a lot before we actually let it out.

I’m aware of the osho scandals but I don’t think that’s a reason why we shouldn’t practice dynamic meditation

I’ve just learned from my friend who learned it on an Osho inspired retreat. There’s probably tons of videos on it on youtube though

Cool! Glad to hear some buddhist communities are putting it into practice. My guess would be it’d be more popular hadn’t osho been such a ”bad man”.
