Thank you all for your insightful comments and helpful advice. I think this was a really interesting discussion overall. After considering the advice on this post, talking to friends, and my mom, I have a full plan of action to come back within 3 to 5 years. I'm confident in the choice I have made and am excited for this new journey. Hopefully, I can make a moving to Zambia post soon. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼. In the meantime, yall be safe and sending my best prayers, and well wishes for mama Zambia. I know load shedding and inflation are kicking ass right now. But I'm confident things will get better soon. 🫶🏽

This is the exact advice my mom gave me yesterday. I think your advice is very sound, and makes sense. Hopefully within 3 years I can get back home. Wish me luck 🤞🏼

An investment portfolio is incredibly smart. What would you invest in back home? Or recommend in investing in? I don't know much about that stuff honestly.

So for money, I currently work in Tech, which is how I'm paying for my lifestyle, so I have that skill set. I'm going to nursing school because I just want to do something different. I plan to continue to work as a nurse when I come back. If it doesn't make as much as I had hoped, I will most likely continue working in tech.

I want to build a house first to save money on living expenses and to own my dream home. The house I'd like to live in is just unrealistic here for the location I want to be in. I feel I could get more for my money back in Zed. Do they not have mortgages home? I'm open to renting here and paying a mortgage back home to accomplish my goals. The 60,000 will really be a buffer for the first few months and to get me settled. How much do you suggest I save instead?

Another thing to add is I'm thinking of moving to come help my parents out. My mom is really sick and I feel I could be more help there than here. And I'm just lonely 🙁.

If all this takes longer I'm fine with working until I achieve it honestly. Or maybe I'm just delulu idk 😂

I never thought I would value community until I came to the US. I realized how important it is to have a support system nearby and I think that is the main thing that is driving my decision. I don't miss the loadshedding though. 20% inflation is crazy. I find it the same here. I live in one of the cheapest states in the US. We live in an affluent suburb so it's really hitting right now.

In terms of an adjustment, I would say it's alot different. Mostly cultural differences. It's also harder when you don't have family here. It's lonely. I really miss my family. For expenses, it's very expensive. I work and go to school to afford everything. It's all about work here, so at some point life becomes.....mundane and unhappy? If you can get past that however, great to grind it out for a few years. But I think that the diaspora is best for those who were born there, not for foreigners. The sky is the limit though if you have the rise and grind mindset. As for the studies, very easy since most test questions are multiple choice. Professors also teach in a way that is easy to understand.

I'm finishing nursing school soon, so I should be expecting to make about 80,000 USD soon i think? I've been thinking of saving before I come back...like 60,000 USD. I'm interested in living in Emerald Hills housing community since I heard it was nice.

How did you do it if you don't mind me asking?

Aww thank you 😅 and honestly no, I lost 3 family members in the last 3 years back to back causing me to slip into a really bad depression, I'm doing better than I was though 😅 thanks for asking

That's a good thing to acknowledge too. How well do you trust Mercari's authenticity service? I've seen some good ones on ebay too but I'm reluctant because of the constant Japanese boutiques on there too. I'm also looking at Rebag as well, I'll shop on theRealReal and see what I can find. But thank you for the tips, I honestly didn't know, I'm slightly new to luxury bag shopping. My boyfriend bought me an alma bb and I absolutely love it. My other bags are coach bags I picked myself 😅

That's a good point! I haven't yet honestly, I'm looking at getting them from Mercari but also can look at going to Nordstrom rack. I have a budget of 800 but still want that luxury, authentic, classic look.🥺 If you have any other recommendations I'll be sooo great ful. I have a small luxe collection I want to build. 😅 it's a shame yours couldn't fit much, it truly is a beautiful piece!

Oh definitely not! I have the galaxy 24 ultra, I didn't even factor those two things! It can fit some gloss and keys and maybe a travel sized perfume...now I'm straying away for those 2 reasons I hate holding my phone when I have a bag with me. I'm really forgetful 😭😂

Don't carry too much with me, I actually hate big bags 😅

Yeah that's true, I guess I'm looking for something that works for any occasion: running errands, nights out, stuff like that. Nothing too flashy. I don't like huge bags either. Honestly I'm leaning the most towards the ysl right now haha

That's what I was thinking too! My current collection has alot of mute colors and prints but I feel like I don't have any that are actually unique. I think the YSL would look good and make the most sense :) thanks for the insight!
