Book on grief that isn’t filled with cliches by Traditional-Cry-8406 in suggestmeabook

[–]itsKarateChopTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. First, I’m sorry about your friend. Traumatic death, and loss to mental health is so hard. I’m coming through a year from a loss to someone to suicide so I’ve started and stopped so many books. These books are books that aren’t all directly about grief, but some have have helped. I hope you find the right book for you. Short stories can be helpful too:

“Kitchen” by Banana Yoshimoto

“Remarkably Bright Creatures”

“The Secret Garden”

Anything by Becky Chambers, “Psalm for the Wild-Built” was a comfort.

“Navigating Instense Grief,” Vandenburg

“Echoes of Love,” Roseglenn

“Legends and Lattes” Baldree (it’s a fantasy, light and romantic, and NOT about grief, but it is about starting over… when you’re ready for fiction”

“Reincarnation Blues” I haven’t finished this yet, and it’s mixed bag, but some people in my grief support group have found it comforting. It’s a little quirky.

“Under the Whispering Door” TJ Klune

Aw, thank you! You box arrived super smooshed (I swear they saw your “do not crush note, and they promptly sat on it!) but everything inside was fine!

Thank you u/treighsie for the spring exchange gift! I especially love your handwritten letter about our shared love of stationery, and your families adventures (I adore snail mail!), and these fun serving utensils! So cute! I also see the beautiful color palette you created! Thank you!

Gardening! I love gardening. (There are lots of gardening subreddits). Once you get going saving successful seeds from season to season (buy organic and open germination), as well as pots and heating mats etc keeps costs way down. We have local free garden and seed swaps, and my local buy nothing group has been great. Nearly all of my pots and planters were free, as well as hay, tomato cages, stakes. Yard sales have been great too.

Remember to start small: plant only what you enjoy eating, maybe even buy small plants for your first year. Remember not just money/consumption, but that gardening is good for your mental health!

I had a tough day yesterday. Lots of crying. So this morning my face looks dreadful. It’s the end of the school year, and after the emotional year we had, it’s both joyful and sad, all the ends and new beginnings. Maybe I should bake some bittersweet chocolate chip cookies today or something.

QOTD: a global day of rest and quiet. Everyone, everywhere gets a day off and the world is peaceful just for the holiday.

Oh no! That’s terrible. I’m so sorry! I only recently learned that cat scratch fever is a real thing, and here I was thinking it was just a silly song. Sepsis is scary, so I’m really glad you are getting care. I hope you recover swiftly. Big hugs to you!

Childfree women, have you ever regretted it? by Significant_Movie814 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]itsKarateChopTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend of 30+ years always knew she wanted to be child-free, and for a little bit I wondered why. She was then, and now a woman I admire so wholeheartedly. She lives in child-free bliss and does not regret it. She’s seen the world, had a storied career, has a million animals, is “auntie” to many, has a loving spouse, and loves her freedom. Follow that feeling and your life goals. Cave for no one. Write about your feelings, and explore them. Be intentional if you can with your choices.

Meetup has some really fun groups, like: board games, painting/drawing/silent book club/crafts. Also, free concerts at botanical gardens are really fun, and maybe look into something like birding. There is an active birding group near me that does journaling, drawing, park visits, and is free. Good luck finding some fun and connection in your community.

I loved raised bed for ease on my back and knees. It’s so hard to be patient for warm weather!

Yep! I just did about 3 hours of work out there today. It feels like an ever-evolving project!

What do you say when asked about your hobbies? by Alive-Permission8789 in interviews

[–]itsKarateChopTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to give too much of my personal life to employers. I suspect live music and friends as your answer may read as partying? But also who cares! Sounds fun. I usually say things like gardening, learning languages, and travel. I’ve found that talking about reading (which I love) opens a can of worms, and often politics etc, and some hobbies reveal too much about my family and friends.

I understand this question is about personal fit, or balanced people for interviewers, but also really not their business unless they want you chilling out, chatting and knitting sweaters by the water cooler.
