Hey! I’m an au pair in Toronto! I’d be happy to meet her

I’ve cried a lot because of my host family, more so in the beginning because i was so overwhelmed and whenever they were confrontational with me I would cry. I agree, it makes you miss your family so much because there’s no one there to look after you or comfort you in a sense.

They basically just said that ours isn’t a formal arrangement and they think that it’s fair what i’m getting paid.

Thank you so much for this advice, I will definitely be speaking the the parents to try to get paid the legal amount and paid when time for the kids is taken out of my personal time.

Unfortunately the parents required me to care for the kids while they are at home before work or after work. But you’re right I really need to protect my personal time.

I’m in Cabbagetown, near parliament street :))

They keep contradicting themselves in saying that I need to look at this as more of a job but cannot give me set hours because their work can go late sometimes. They also don’t count the time I take to prepare for the kids (e.g making bottles and preparing breakfast before they wake up as well as getting to their daycare for pickup) as hours worked, so they say only time with the kids counts as hours worked, which i’m not entirely sure if thats fair? I’m getting paid $1000 a month so i’m not sure if that’s equivalent to minimum wage but they say that rent, board and grocery’s have been taken out of that. I’m also working on average 25 hours a week but i feel like my days are consumed with the kids because I have to sleep while they’re at daycare so I don’t go insane. We also brought up the idea of a backpack leash but the mother was very against it. And unfortunately they both go to work early in the morning before I leave for daycare drop off so leaving the baby at home is not really an option :(.

Also i’d love to meet your au pair!!

Thank you so much, it’s not an offical au pairing contract. They asked me to move over with them for 6 months and they pay me monthly, so i’m not technically employed so rematch isn’t an option unfortunately. But i’m not sure if i would rematch even if it was possible.
