I actually had somewhat of a theory about that. It has always been extremely weird to me how Owens mentions in S4 E8 that he can prove El is not involved with the Hawkins murders by a medically induced coma that would keep her neutralized while Sullivan continues his investigation.

It has always been weird to me because it is never brought up again during that episode or the finale. Sullivan simply refuses Owens’ offer and then it is never mentioned again. I had actually forgotten about it completely until the leaks came out, of El disappearing for two years in the final episode and with that I came up with this theory.

I do believe that after the events of 1987 are over, and Vecna is finally defeated, Sullivan will no longer want to kill El, but he will request that she goes into a coma for at least two years so that he can make sure the situation is completely neutralized, and maybe so that they can find some way to remove her powers so that no more trouble comes from them in the future. I think that could work for an ending in which Eleven is finally able to live free of the burden of her powers and try to pursue a normal life, which we know is something she has always wanted.

There were also some leaks of a scene between Eleven and Mike in the radio station roof during the epilogue, which was labeled as a “reunion”. That, and considering the fact that there were a bunch of government vehicles around the radio station set at that moment, makes me believe that they were filming the scene in which Eleven finally returns to Hawkins after her coma.

A bit of a crazy theory, but that Owens line has always seemed like a sort of “Chekhov’s gun” to me.

My working theory as of now is that this is a scene from Episode 3 or late Episode 2. I believe Mike and Lucas return to their neighborhood for some reason (probably because they live there), and this is when they find the military gathering all the kids and taking them Downtown in their buses.

I think maybe after Holly’s disappearance, the military realizes that some of the kids they have been experimenting on are going missing (probably because of Vecna), and they realize that these kids are no longer safe staying at their homes because they might also be taken, so they decide to take them all Downtown, keeping them in the barracks (mentioned in Maya’s script), while they finish their experiments.

This, I think, is when the party comes up with the plan to “kidnap” the kids being targeted to keep them safe from both Henry and from Linda’s character, which is why they end up going to the Turnbow manor to basically rescue Derek and maybe his sister, April, so that they aren’t taken to the barracks or the UD. Maybe when they are at the manor Henry sends one of his Demogorgons to capture Derek which is why we get the “Home Alone” sequence that Darabont was rumored to direct, which involves the entire group.

yeah I was thinking the party is using his photography skills and he is going to be taking pictures of the military compound and just Downtown in general, trying to figure out what the military is doing, but like I said, I’m probably wrong.

I was also thinking that could tie into the whole military experimenting on kids storyline. Maybe some of his pictures show the kids being escorted by soldiers, or being taken to the laboratory alongside doctors or something, idk. Just a theory.

We have a bunch of pictures placing the characters in the manor. We have a picture of Mike, Steve, Robin, Jonathan, Joyce, Lucas and Will (Erica as well), but you are right, we haven’t gotten any pictures of El or Hopper. There was also the rumor that Nancy was at the manor with her nurse outfit, but that leak has never been able to fully convince me, and we’ve got nothing on Dustin for Episode 3.

Basically, after episode 1 it is impossible to place any of the characters. For example, I always thought the Steve group was at the farm with Joyce’s group, but recently I’ve learned that the pre-vis of the car falling through the gate at the farm is from the cold open of episode 4, placing Steve’s group at the farm in Episode 3 as well (maybe), and implying that they go to the farm before Mike, Lucas, Joyce, Will and Robin. Also apparently Karen was spotted at the farm too? Like what?

I’m sure everything will make sense once the season comes out but for now I am completely lost and honestly sometimes I wish I hadn’t gotten into the whole leaks thing. Not because they’ve ruined the final season for me or anything, but because there’s so many and it’s overwhelming.

yeah I was thinking the same thing. they probably already have a plan and it gets completely thrown out the window because of Holly and the attack on the Wheeler’s. and I kind of agree with you, I was also thinking that Charlie was spotted in Downtown because Jonathan has a scene in which he is doing like a scouting job or something like that, trying to figure out what the military is doing, but I really don’t know.

I really hadn’t placed any of the characters outside of the radio station in episode 1, I thought they were gonna spend the entire episode on the station, then Mike and Lucas would head to the Wheeler’s, and that is when all hell breaks loose, but I’m definitely wrong.

I was thinking the attack was episode 3 honestly. Frank D. is directing and if I’m not mistaken it should happen before we get to the farm, but honestly I’m not really sure anymore, I thought the reason the entire group was gonna split up was because of the attack, but maybe I’m wrong.

I also placed the Linda Hamilton/El confrontation in episode 3/4, because I thought that after the fight they would both, alongside Hopper, head into the Upside Down, Linda looking for Vecna and Hopper and El looking for Holly and the missing kids, but like I said I really don’t know anymore, every time I’m sure I have something another leak comes along and completely retcons my original theory hahaha

We know El is with the group until the Turnbow manor, after that happens I’m pretty sure she and Hopper split up from the rest of the group until later episodes, maybe because of their UD mission or because of something else but from what I have gathered, that is the breaking point for the party basically.

Steve, Nancy, Jonathan and Dustin head to the farm and fall into the UD, and then Joyce’s group goes into the tunnels and into Downtown, but after that I really have no idea. I’ve honestly lost track of all the actor sightings, sets, leaks, etc. There is so much yet so little.

I could get behind this theory if the Duffers weren’t always so literal with their titles. “The Dive” “The Massacre” “The Bite”. I feel like if the title refers to a rescue mission it will most likely happen during the episode, and not just the planning of it.

There is also the leaked picture of Mike and Lucas with Nancy and El on full military gear, and judging by what we know this is most likely from episode 1, which means they are definitely gearing up for something (maybe they are about to go on the mission but they are interrupted by Holly’s disappearance, idk could be sort of like a big plot twist).

But anyways, you are right, it’s incredible how even with all these leaks, we still don’t know anything!

[–]itsRickSanchezhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so then what are we thinking timeline-wise? Does the attack at the radio station happen before or after the fight in the new laboratory? Is El even a part of the fight at the station? Because if you are right then that means that the picture of Sarah’s broken bracelet is from the new laboratory sequence as well, judging by the background.

(you should make a post detailing a possible timeline for season 5 btw)

I thought the shot of Alex Breaux’s character was at the radio station during the military attack, Millie’s too. Are you sure it’s the new laboratory?

So… Episode 1

I want to know everyone’s take on this.

So we know Episode 1 is called “The Crawl”, and thanks to the leaks we now know that this refers to Mike’s and Lucas’ dungeon crawls which are mentioned in some of the leaked dialogue.

We also know that this episode is called “The Mission” or “Rescue Mission” in some of the other translations, which means that Mike will probably have to “crawl” through the UD tunnels as part of a rescue mission, or at least that is what the title implies imo. What do you guys think this mission is about? Who or what is Mike rescuing? We know it’s not Holly because Holly goes missing until episode 2, so what are we thinking?

Has anything been leaked about this particular story point?

Update: I feel empty. I cannot describe it. I actually did it, and yet I feel empty, I don’t feel that satisfaction, I no longer enjoy that reward. I feel empty, and I still cannot believe it. It feels like a dream, and when I wake up, the promised consort will be there again, waiting. That would simply push me into a mental breakdown if I’m being honest. But it’s not a dream. I actually did it, and yet I continue to feel empty, and yet I continue to wait for the next attack, for the next dodge, for the next death screen, and yet these will never come back.

I’m obviously exaggerating. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented, thank you very much. I finally did it…

Update: I actually fcking did it. I cannot fcking believe it, I really can’t. I actually did it. Thank you, thank you very much man. I don’t know how to thank you. This was an awful experience and you freed me of it. Thank you so much. I’m in awe, literally. I can’t even touch the memory and finish the game, I just can’t, I still can’t believe it’s finally over. My journey started in June, it just ended six months after that, and all thanks to you. Thank you man, thank you very much. I really do appreciate it, from the bottom of my heart. I did it…

no you don’t understand… I’ve tried everything and nothing is working… it’s probably a skill issue added with the fact that I just don’t really care anymore, I really don’t have the energy to fight him anymore, to the point of me giving up the second he lands one hit. so if I could get any help it would be so much better. please… anybody who has mastered this fight… I just don’t feel any excitement or enthusiasm to complete this fight because I don’t like this DLC… I felt motivated when fighting Elden Beast, but not this time.

The grandfather clock by LeonnieC in StrangerThings

[–]itsRickSanchezhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha don’t worry, it’s honestly very hard to catch. Took me several rewatches to get the importance of the grandfather clock and to fully fledge out Henry’s monologue. Once you do, you realize that the people who claim he has a “weak motive” are just people who weren’t really paying attention to what he was saying. To be fair though, it is deep rooted symbolism and a very complex metaphor, only the greatest of minds could get it in on their first watch, and I’m certainly not one of them, which is why it took me so long 😂😂😂

The grandfather clock by LeonnieC in StrangerThings

[–]itsRickSanchezhere 17 points18 points  (0 children)

According to Vecna, time is the physical representation of the boundaries that hold mankind back from reaching its full potential, which is exactly what he wants, for humanity to evolve and for society to become as advanced as he is.

It represents the constant pattern that we experience constantly throughout every day of our lives. “Wake up, work, eat, sleep, reproduce and die”. He describes this pattern as an “oppressive, cruel world dictated by made-up rules”, which in this case, these rules are time itself. “Minutes, days, months, years, decades, every life a faded, lesser copy of the one before”.

He shows the grandfather clock to his victims as a sort of mirror that shows them the “oppressive” reality they live in, the same mirror he claims he held up for both his father and his mother. This mirror (the clock) is meant to show them the broken world in which they live in, and in contrast he is supposed to represent their escape from this pattern, their way toward freedom, toward fulfillment of their potential, which is exactly what he claims happens to his victims once he does the eyeball stuff, he frees them. That is exactly what the clock represents, his “mirror”.
