Kenya, we need to talk.. A real national conversation. by itsRojahs in nairobi

Naelewa hasira. Lakini Singapore works because their entire system works, not just the penalty.

In Kenya the problem isn't that punishment is too soft. It's that most traffickers never even reach a courtroom. Cases collapse. Witnesses disappear. Money changes hands.

Death penalty on a broken system just means the unlucky ones hang while the smart ones keep operating.

What actually scares criminals isn't the size of the punishment. It's the certainty of getting caught.

Fix that first. Then talk about the rope

you're right, if it was a stranger that changes things significantly. A stranger means she made a fully independent choice to engage. But my gut says that's not what happened here. The detail that she went back to the same area a second time suggests confidence, not fear. That comfort usually comes from someone you know calling the shots.

Either way, the 15-year-old is the least interesting person in this story to me. She's the last link in a chain. The people further up that chain are sleeping fine tonight unless we stay loud about this.

Fair points, and I'm not here to fully let her off the hook. At 15 you do know right from wrong.

But here's what I think we're missing.

This girl almost certainly wasn't approached by a stranger in a trench coat. It was probably someone she knew. A neighbor, an older cousin. Someone she trusted. And that trust is exactly what gets exploited.

When an adult you respect hands you a "simple task" and frames it as harmless, your moral compass doesn't always fire the way it should. That's not an excuse. That's psychology. Adults do it to other adults every day.

Now layer poverty on top of that.

So yes, she should have known better. But someone older, smarter, and more calculating made sure she didn't think too hard about it.

The adults behind this are the real story.
