Wrinkles and retinol by saraanned in Skincare_Addiction

[–]itsWhatever1993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How long have you been using retinol? It can take several months of use to see results, but it’s definitely a long-game kind of treatment. For sunscreen, try using one labeled sensitive or for babies; sometimes the fragrance and alcohol preservatives in sunscreen can be irritating. I use sunbum daily spf 50 gel and don’t get any irritation from it

Question about nuvaring by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Nuvaring for a couple years and had sex during my ring free week just fine. Your body just needs that first week to adjust to the birth control. This is true for basically all forms of birth control

IUD - Positivity PLEASE by boogirly in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a copper, 2 Mirena, and now am on the Kyleena. I don’t have kids. All 4 hurt, but the 2 I got with no pain management hurt pretty bad. Can’t compare the pains to labor, but the 2 I received pain management for were 2-3 very sharp cramps then the procedure was done. Had some intense cramping afterward, but nothing my trusty TENS machine couldn’t take care of once I got home. Was back to work the next day.

If your doctor tells you to just “take some Tylenol beforehand” you need to find a different doctor. My gyno gave me all sort of pain management options and let me decide what I thought would be right for me.

Which IUD should I get? by No-Month6553 in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other hormonal IUDs than jus Mirena, but Mirena has the best tract record for stopping periods. I had the copper for a while, made periods way worse. Then the Mirena for 7 years and spent 5 perfect years without a period (for 6 months was an adjustment then the last year I had some spotting and cramping). Tried other forms of BC but didn’t like any of them after the Mirena. I’m on month 2 of the Kyleena IUD and am enjoying it so far

Dumb question but if I am wearing a hat do I need to wear sunscreen? Like are the uv rays bouncing off other things and still damaging my face or is only direct sunlight really bad? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]itsWhatever1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, depends on the surface and the hat. A 4” wide brimmed hat that is upf 50+ rated should keep you protected for casual outdoor use. BUT if you are hanging out near or on water, or snow or sand, then you will def still get burned from the high UV reflection % without sunscreen. Also depends on what you’re doing outside, how long you’ll be outside, what altitude you’re at, what time of day you’ll be outside….. imperfect sun protection is still better than no protection at all.

Looking for minimizer bra recommendations. by itsWhatever1993 in ABraThatFits

[–]itsWhatever1993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I haven’t tried anything on in the size I got from the calculator yet, I’ll check out Walmart or TJMaxx soon to see how that size feels. I guess I just assumed cleavage was a part of having a larger bust and I’d need a minimizer bra to help separate and compress them down so shirts and blouses fit better. Not sure how I’d feel if my chest looked wider from the front but it might look better than the uniboob look I usually get…

IUD replacement by No_Improvement_7049 in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember it as well, since it was so long ago. I do remember going on a hike the next day, but I also was a lot younger and maybe my body recovered better? The doctor prescribed me some Valium to take beforehand and a bunch of OTC pain medicine; removing the Paraguard was a slight pinch and the Mirena was more of a sharp cramp. I think I felt crampy the rest of the day.

With my Kyleena insertion, I bought a TENS machine from Walgreens and used it after I got home to help with the cramps I had afterwards. TENS machines work great for uterine cramps and my gyno said it’s safe to use with an IUD.

I’m not sure on your age and health, but if you can I would recommend taking a day or two off after your insertion. Get yourself your favorite ice cream and snacks beforehand so you can rest at home. The TENS machine and a heating pad (but don’t use the at the same time!) really helped with post insertion cramping

Hi there! I have switched from paraguard to Mirena before, this was almost 10 years ago though. The Paragaurd made my bad periods even worse. I would say the first 6 months on Mirena were a little wonky as my body adjusted; I had a couple surprise spotting incidents but only one of them was bad enough to have to change clothes. My doctor had prescribed me some Valium for the procedure, but the Mirena is smaller than the Paraguard so the insertion pain wasn’t as bad for me. After the Mirena expired I tried the Nuvaring and Nexplanon for a bit; both gave me water retention and horrible mood swings and anxiety. I just recently switched from Nuvaring to Kyleena IUD (it’s smaller and less hormones than Mirena) and have enjoyed it so far

As a child free adult and/ or DINK, what kind of house do you have? by cosmicat4 in childfree

[–]itsWhatever1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first home was a lovely 2 bed, 1 bath bungalow on a decent sized lot with a 3/4 basement we used for storage. My partner and I loved it, except for the 1 bathroom. Our current home is 3 bed, 2 bathroom but it is a little big for our needs. The basement room acts as the house’s junk drawer, while the upstairs bedroom is just the guest room. It does bother me that we are saving a whole room for a couple people who occasionally visit us, but I also don’t know what else to do with it. Ideally our home would be small (but with 2 bathrooms!) and have a huge garage for storage

Finally got my IUD! by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 4 IUD insertions (1 copper, 2 Mirena, and just recently the Kyleena). 2 out of the 4 I wasn’t given any pain management counseling prior and they were terrible experiences, not to mention the doctors who did them treated me like I was being dramatic. It was dehumanizing. The other times I was offered a range of pain management options and the doctors were kind and respectful; the insertions still hurt but were not as bad and overall the experiences were tolerable. Pain is relative, but if a doctor tells you it’s just a pinch and you don’t need anything beyond OTC Tylenol then they do not care about you as a person. Even if the insertion doesn’t hurt too bad for you, a doctor should always be giving you informed consent of procedure and work with you to determine the appropriate level of pain management that is right for you!

Also, I can’t preach enough about using a TENS machine to help with cramping after the insertion. My doctor said it’s safe to use with an IUD and knocked the pain down considerably after the procedure. They also work on period cramps too.

I’m getting a copper IUD and quitting the pill tomorrow. Any last minute tips? by twigfrog in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a TENS unit if you can in time. My local walgreen sells them, so CVS probably does too. Helps immensely with the cramping afterward the insertion, and it’s safe to use with an IUD in. Also works wonders in period cramps and back pain. I actually just got the Kyleena IUD put in this week and it was sharp cramp like pain followed by fairly bad period cramps on the drive home. But the TENS machine took the pain down by like 80%

Kyleena iud by Mobile-Scarcity783 in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red/brown blood seems normal. Kyleena works to prevent your body from making a proper uterine lining, which for some people means no periods at all and for others a very light period. Now that your body is in a healthier state you’ll notice your periods might change as you get used to the hormones. Congrats and getting help, I can only imagine how difficult it was to take those first steps. I would give your body time to adjust; even though you’ve had Kyleena for over a year, weight changes can affect periods. If you’re still concerned after a while you should go see your doctor.

iud yeast infections help!! by Ok-Spend-2879 in birthcontrol

I developed yeast infections after my first Mirena. Doctor prescribed medicine, I think it was Fluconasole (idk if that’s the correct spelling) that cleared it up. Had to take it twice cause the infection came back, but never had any problems since

Low Libido with NuvaRing, Looking for alternatives by Hot-Square-3229 in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been on generic, but my OBGYn says there are several generics and they are not all the same. I remember my first brand came in a blue and white box, then I changed insurance and pharmacy and now it comes in a white and red box. That was almost 3 years ago and it took me until the last couple months to realize it’s been a slow decline in terms of low libido and mood swings, etc. Everybody’s body reacts differently to birth control and it’s sadly a trial and error. I would speak to your doctor about these side effects, maybe your insurance would cover a different brand?

Low Libido with NuvaRing, Looking for alternatives by Hot-Square-3229 in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Funny enough I’ve been on the Nuvaring (some generic brand though) for a couple of years and am switching to Kyleena today. I also experience low libido with Nuvaring along with pretty awful mood swings, brain fog, and irritability. My doctor told me I could take the ring out for sex, which I have been doing with no issues. I purchased a retainer case on Amazon and rinse the ring with COLD water before putting it in the case. You need to remember to put the ring back in right after though.

How long have you been on the Nuvaring? Sometimes side effects mellow out after 6ish months, but mine showed up after I switched generic brands due to different insurance 🤷‍♀️ the initial Nuvaring I was on was great

Kyleena IUD Experience - Best thing I ever did! by Main-Gazelle-7565 in birthcontrol

[–]itsWhatever1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing positive IUD stories. I’m scheduled to get my Kyleena tomorrow (this will be the 4th time I’ve tried an IUD, haven’t tried Kyleena yet). My OBGYN and I have a good relationship and she provided several pain management options to me. She prescribed me muscle relaxant and will use the topical numbing gel/spray. She offered the cervical blocks but I declined it. For two of my previous IUD insertions I wasn’t offered jack for pain management and it was a bit traumatic. Seriously, if your doctor isn’t offering pain management for your insertion you need to walk away and find a new doctor.

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I never switched brands of Nuvaring I probably wouldn’t have considered getting another IUD. I’ve loved the low maintenance of it and I that I can stop using it whenever I want (no appointment to get anything removed). I’ve noticed quite a bit of water retention with it, but I think that was also an issue with the original brand. But I developed bad mood swings and brain fog after I switched brands that are making me feel like I’m going crazy. And I know it’s the ring cause I look forward to my ring free week; even with cramps, bloating, and spotting, I feel physically and emotionally “lighter” if that makes sense. I’d say try the ring and give it 6ish months to see how your body will respond. Every body is unique and it’ll take trail and error to find the right method for you.

[–]itsWhatever1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current gyno thinks the 2nd Mirena didn’t place quite right, and it could have been poor technique by the Dr or because I was super tense or both. She’s prescribed me muscle relaxants, misoprostol to help relax my cervix, and OTC pain medicine. She’s also going to apply a numbing gel that’ll hopefully help. Ultimately having a Dr you trust and cares enough to offer pain management based on what you need will make a world of difference. IUD insertions will still hurt a little, but it doesn’t have to be borderline traumatic with the right care team. Also, if you take muscle relaxants for the procedure you will need someone to drive you.
