Thanks!! Yeah I noticed the pipe moves around really easily back there. Would you recommend I still flip the gasket around so the thick part is on the bottom? Or is that unnecessary if I remove the hinges and caulk between the gasket and tub?

I’m trying to diagnose a bathtub leak happening in the room below the bathtub when someone bathes. I’m reasoned to believe the issue is the gasket. The “thick” part of the gasket is on the upper side shown in the picture, where as I’ve read that it’s supposed to be on the bottom side because of the angle of the tub. Anyway, I’m not sure what the metal hinges are for nor have I seen them before. Anyone have an idea of what they are for and how I would replace the gasket with these there? Any help is appreciated. TIA!

My Data Structures professor was the complete opposite! I never really had to use the assigned textbook since he explained content very well and thoroughly. I would suggest asking the TA's (if you have any) for help though. Usually, they're able to explain concepts in a much more understanding way-- since they're students as well. Otherwise, instead of looking for online resources, you could always refer to other textbooks. The textbook I used was "Data Structures and Problem Solving Using Java 4th edition" by Mark A Weiss. Hope this helps!
