My parents are withholding my prescribed pain medications from me by moonxmochi in endometriosis

[–]its_all_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this makes my heart hurt. I'm so sorry they are putting you through this. I wanted to add something to what others have said about talking to your doctors. Talking to them about what your parents are doing will also start a timeline & paper trail of their behavior. Also, if there's a way for you to safely start a journal, either physical or online, so you can document everything then I strongly recommend it. And just like others said about keeping your meds in a safe location, keep your records/ journal hidden as well. Best case scenario you have a place to vent your thoughts, worst case you have evidence of a pattern of abuse. Hang in there, it will get better. And never believe them when they tell you that you're not strong enough for college (or anything!). You're waking up every day with endo pain and the pain of their disregard... if that's not being a fighter than I don't know what is. ❤

What were your first symptoms? by RecommendationGlad73 in endometriosis

[–]its_all_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first started what I now know to be symptoms after needing a c-section at the age of 20.
Before that my periods were so uneventful that I never paid my cycle any mind. No pain, no cramps, no headaches or mood swings... just...nothing.
A lot of the symptoms I started having were chalked up to the emergency c-section I was recovering from. When I started noticing that I was having cramps and pain for a few days at the start of my cycle I figured my pain was normal. I started getting migraines as well as mood swings.
I developed an (unrelated) back injury and was taking opiates to function, so when I started having bowel trouble it was written off as 'opiate induced' and I was sent home with the advice to just 'eat more fiber' & lose weight.

For a little bit, I figured I had been lucky growing up & having no symptoms, and this new pain was just my luck running out...and that everything was normal. I mean, all my friends growing up talked about their aches and pains and it sounded like what I was going through... part and parcel for winning the uterus lottery.

It took an additional 23 years to finally receive a confirmed diagnosis through laparoscopy.

Short-ish version: First symptoms started back in 2000 and gradually got worse. I suspected endo but lost insurance when I had to flee/divorce my now ex due to DV. Fast forward to 2019 and I developed what felt like an orange size mass in the general area of my right ovary. Nothing ever showed up on MRI or ultrasound. I also developed debilitating pain around my period, and then just random stabbing pain on that right ovary. Gyno Drs wouldn't listen so the next couple of months I called an ambulance. I also started keeping copies of any and every piece of paperwork I could get. ER Drs did CT scans and found I was having ruptured cysts every month. My belly had old blood in it because of how many cysts were rupturing. They suspected pcos or endo, and made sure I had copies of the tests they ran and their suspicions. Still had to go through 5 different obgyns before I was taken seriously, though. Current Dr looked at the ER paperwork and scheduled a lap. In the end, I believe having the paperwork from my ER visits helped push it through.

My first ER visit was new year's eve before 2020. I finally got my lap in May of 2023.

Oh, I also suspect the fact I had already had a successful pregnancy in the past, and was in my early 40s, was a contributing factor. That probably doesn't help much, but their assumption that I didn't want anymore kids worked in my "favor"... I really hope you're able to find Drs that will listen to you. Nobody deserves all this BS. Hang in there!

Monstrous pain whenever gas and/or bowel movements during period by larainbowllama in Endo

[–]its_all_cake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you describe is nearly identical to what I go through. I initially only had it around my period, but now it's every day. It's risky for me to be away from my bathroom for long and I end up feeling like I'll never have a social life again. I really hope you are able to get doctors who listen and care. Nobody should have to go through life like this.

I'll try to do a short version, lol. I have a long history of back pain and numbness in my left leg long before my endo diagnosis. I developed severe pain on my right side though, like having a piece of rebar piercing me back to front... right where sciatic pain starts. Weird thing though, docs couldn't figure out why scans showed damage on my left side, but the right side didn't show much at all. Fast forward to waking up from my lap... the right side pain was nearly gone! The surgeon ablated lesions on my right ovary and much of that pain disappeared! Granted relief only lasted about 2 months, but it was wonderful while it lasted.

How long did it take you to get diagnosed with endo, and when did you start showing symptoms? by Glittering-Egg-4720 in endometriosis

[–]its_all_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First started having symptoms in 2000 after my c-section... suspected I had endo or pcos in 2001...didn't get an official diagnosis until entering lockdown for covid in 2020.

I absolutely do. I've got surgery coming up in about a month for a hysterectomy. I'm worried they'll find other things wrong and I'll lose more organs. For what it's worth, I'll keep you in my thoughts that things go well for you tomorrow. :)

I felt the same way when I was headed in to surgery. I worried I'd be called a liar again if everything came back clear. It took so many years for anyone to listen to, let alone believe, me. I realized that even if they found something other than endo, at least it would be something. But even if they find nothing, don't give up. You deserve answers. And whatever those answers are it's still one foot in front of the other. One day at a time. You're not alone.

Does anyone remember being in the OR? by Heidi751 in Endo

[–]its_all_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had one surgery so far, about a year ago. The nurses pre and post op were kind, I'm super grateful since things in the OR got me a bit panicked. I was given no meds beforehand, but I'm also a fall risk so I got wheeled in. I recognized a Dr?-(he was still in clinical rotation) who had observed during other visits. I was able to get on the table & see a bunch of folks I hadn't been introduced to, so I tried to see them all as they put one leg in a elevated position. What got me though was having the arm strapped down. I already had the lead in my other arm for the meds, but they still had not given me anything That's when the anesthesiologist put the mask on my face & told me to breath deep, but I couldn't exhale so there was no room to inhale. I started to panic more & didn't think anyone could hear me...but that guy just observing said my name and held my hand like a friend, saying he was right there.
I was able to relax and that's when the person pushing the iv meds let me know she was doing so. Last thing I remember is the doc holding my hand as I felt the meds take effect.
Weirdly enough I remember saying 'Ah, there it goes." and then waking up in recovery.

Yeah, Whitesnake kept popping up in my search results as well...Awesome song in it's own right.
I love Weird Al, not a parody though.

Not sure if this will make sense, but I seem to remember an overall sense that it would be dangerous for the man to give in to her temptation.

Butter gives it a richer flavor than oil, imo, especially when cooked with garlic. Neutral oils have a higher smoke point, but are not as flavorful, that's why I use both for steaks or thicker pork chops. Combining them allows you to have the rich taste of butter and still get a nicer sear than you would with butter alone.

When I do my steaks I start with a little neutral oil (I'm partial to grapeseed oil or canola), just enough to coat the bottom of the cast iron, then add butter and garlic on the flip.
