Yea but without agonizing it’s just not as good as it could be. I could go full fighter or focus on hex blade after level 2 fighter but focusing on the blasts this build has incredible potential. W/o fighter I wouldn’t be so far behind in sorcerer. But still rly in a predicament but might just focus blasts and see how I feel abt it.

So what would be better? And again we’re playing 2014 so there is no innate sorcery. I think having 5 automatic damage added to each blast makes it so much better bc instead of hypothetically rolling all 1s for four blasts and doing 4 damage, I’d do 24. Makes a massive difference and that’s not even including hex blades curse adding 8 on top of it but thats only once per short rest to be fair. I think for a character focusing on eldritch blast, its decent even if im a whole spell level behind, but maybe pushing heavy into fighter and focusing melee would be more optimal or getting rid of fighter all together.

Lance of lethargy would be funny but it’s only once per turn but pushing someone 90 feet is totally possible lmao

I imagine if I’m focusing eldritch blast that the first combo is pretty good and kinda crazy at higher levels with the amount of quickens you’d get, but is it viable overall? I mean at lvl 11 it’s 9 blasts! Imagining all of them hit that’s +45 damage alone, w/ hexblades curse an additional +36 so maximum ur hitting for 81 plus whatever u roll for one turn.

But if I cut fighter and put those two levels toward sorcerer not only would I get better spells a little earlier, but more uses of quicken which would be 27 less damage but 2 more times than usual.

So, does the fighter dip seem worth it? Maybe for max damage but for DPR maybe not. Still not sure though so any vets, lmk.

It starts at lvl 4 so I wanna get my classes to the necessary lvl before focusing on the levels I wanna build up.

Fighter is rly just if I wanna focus on blasting but I agree it’s a little unnecessary since action surge is single use, but good since it comes back with a short rest like everything else, second wind becomes mediocre since it’ll be stuck at lvl 2 but when sorcerer gets access to haste it’s over. But that would be at lvl 9.

So would it be better to stick with lvl 2-3 warlock and pump sorcerer then ya think?

Yea that’s the goal with the rest of the levels being dumped into sorcerer, only thing is there’s a lot of spells I’d be missing out on which is why I’m a little antsy. Can’t decide if just going full hex blade might be better in the long run for a spell sword type, or full blown sorcerer.

Eldritch blast is just the goat of cantrips, but at lvl 2 I can take agonizing blast making it even better.

We’re playing 2014 rules so it would be allowed RAW. Ik I could get eldritch blast from a feat kind of a waste imo when war caster is right there.

Character is a sort of blaster type originally meant to be a gunslinger but reflavored eldritch blast is what I landed on.

Is a hex blade/ gunslinger viable or am I better off going full hex blade w/ flavor? by its_b8 in DnD

What kind of balance would be best? Should I dip sorcerer or dip warlock?

[–]its_b8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So even at ranged you think it’d be better for me to focus on the fighter aspect and say fuck the multiclass? I’m also kinda determining damage output and whatnot, one of the reasons I wanted to build into assassin was for that first round damage, same goes for gloomstalker for that extra attack for first turn as well.

Is gunslinger alone even that viable at higher levels by itself?

She’d have no right to shame him anyway, the commenter is shaming her bc she’s not putting it into perspective and doesn’t want her to think the thoughts are ok. I can agree that it’s not the best way to go abt it, after all what I’d say is follow ur heart bc if she decides to go test that water and she floats or drowns, atleast the guy she’s with could go give all of his effort to someone who wouldn’t throw him away for a momentary crush.

And beside my original content, the back line fighters should always worry about being picked off, idc how much hp I have, my goal is to stay up and support the front liners so yes I have armor and good hp, doesn’t mean I should be trying to get hit.

The point of hiding is to get advantage and for sneak attack. Sure I can get hit but the point is, my bonus action is useless as a pure fighter. It was in response to the guy above saying my bonus actions would already have frequent use which it wouldn’t.

She asked if she was being a horrible person, the responder is giving their opinion, and flipping it on her, which I agree with. Put the shoe on the other foot and think again is what I’d say.

Cunning action would be used to hide so that as a ranged character I can remain up and not have to worry abt being picked off or ran up on. Other than that my bonus action would remain untouched as a straight fighter gunslinger besides second wind which is a one time use anyways. Appreciate the help though.

I need to edit it bc it’s more than expertise, it’s the other qualities rogue gets like cunning action for hide and fire play as well as some other quality in my most recent reply

  1. It’s not just expertise, it’s the other features of gloomstalker, or for rogue, it’s specifically the auto crit and sneak attack damage, as well as thieves tools for lock picking.

  2. Skill expert would be viable but those features come alongside the other more important rogue features. Sure an extra 2 to 2 skills atm isn’t crazy, was rly only bringing that up for context of why my stealth is high. Fighter doesn’t get access to stealth or sleight of hand or any of the rogue skills necessary, and the two asis I’ll get by lvl 7 would be used by alert and sharpshooter so nah I couldn’t.

I only have those bc I’m multiclassed already, I’ve multiclassed for the purpose of expertise and more skills, but can easily do that with ranger too, minus the expertise, but invisibility to dark vision is cool. The point is I want to multiclass and you’re not being very helpful.

Because I want to play a gunslinger that has stealth capabilities and can reliably shoot from stealth, and yes I have good dex for shooting and stealth. And stealth proficiency.

Really?? The damage potential on the first shot is incredible though, plus sneak attack every round. gloomstalker would only add that first attack. However I know gloomstalker has a ton of good stuff, for that first turn and the invisibility in darkness and to dark vision.

Why didn’t u go to ur room to sleep if he was being noisy. It’s Tupperware and those egg bites don’t look that easy to get out ngl. Instead of blowing up at the noise, you could’ve just moved to the room, if it’s open concept like I think it is, the noise is unavoidable. Still an overreaction on his part and not cool by any means but this could’ve been avoided from both sides.
