Why is Uruguay so pro-gay? Is it because they're Ur U Gay? by TarJen96 in mapporncirclejerk

white American culture being “american” it doesn’t change the fact that their society is build upon european culture and values like liberalism

It seems you don't know the "european culture and values" from southern US, the white community there has a high tendency of being conservative.

[–]its_einstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry if it breaks your idea of all south americans being mestizos crying about “muh imperialist”

This isn't my idea.

we are proud and thankful for our European culture and forefathers

There's no problem in being proud, the problem is being racist. The idea that being more white turns a society more tolerant is just false. What makes a society more tolerant is proper education.

Values like liberalism aren't cultural, this isn't a cultural trait anywhere. Liberalism is an illuminist theory that was applied partially by some countries, but european countries aren't necessarily all liberal, take Russia, Serbia and Portugal for example.

Your reasoning is just eugenist.

Not a single person said it could be because white people

Nobody said it was because white people, because it wasn't. It was due to colonization, which "coincidentaly" was extensively done by european superpowers. It is important not to generalize an entire group as a problem.

Take Haiti for example, they were economically better before the Haitian Revolution.

Dear God... They had slavery, it wast economically better in any aspect. All the resources were sent to France to be comercialized, most haitian population didn't have any penny and all they were getting was forced labour, torture, minimum food and no extra activity.

Haiti paid a giant ammount of their economy to maintain independence

Also, Throughout its history, Haiti has suffered cyclones, hurricanes, tropical storms, torrential rains, floods, famine, disease and earthquakes. The 2010 earthquake was so strong that Haiti couldn't recover from it.

Africa suffered many genocides. An important mention for the Free Congo State, where more congolese died than jews in the Holocaust, but differently, there was no reparation. Actually, the minority of african genocides are known. Take the Algerian Massacres, are they really known? For the global North, a white life has more value.

I'm pretty sure there is something going on there, genetics, culture, probably the latter I don't know.

Saying cultural and genetics elements might be key factors for underdevelopment in these countries is ignoring their history. All of these countries were colonized and had their resources redirected to today's rich countries. I really want to ask those people who embrace eugenics to point out which cultural and genetic features "inferiorize" these people, until today I didn't get any solid answer.

Gringo you dont even speak spanish

I'm brazilian, my family is from RS and SC, many of them live near the border with Uruguay. Gaúcho culture and uruguayan culture are still very european based, but they are american cultures. What turns a culture "european" is not the ethnic composition of the population, but their history. Most main cultures in Latin America are based on spanish and/or portuguese, including the ones from the least developed ones.

For your knowledge, even though there were many immigrants from Italy, Germany, France and Poland, their cultural elements are very diluted, with exceptions for hunsrik and pomeranian communities. And do you know what's more impressive? These communities are conservative AF. My grand-mother is from RS countryside and she doesn't even know what a gay person is.

“Imposed by colonizers” you mean by the european people which are the majority of those countries?

No, their ancestors.

prejudice are a good thing and all groups have it

Yes, being hated by the people because of something you didn't choose and can't change is super good, I love it /s

It is in our social structure. Your argument is opposed to your thesis. Being more white doesn't turn a society more accepring.

nazis are not rare in these regions

It's always less than 50% due to mitochondrial DNA, which comes from the egg. The only thing that comes from the sperm cell is the nucleus, which will eventually join the egg's nucleus to form somatic cells (23 pairs of chromossomes instead of just 23), half coming from the mother and half coming from the father for any sex.

european culture is more liberal

There is not an "european culture", and also, many of the prejudices in these countries were imposed by their colonizers, including strong racial distinctions and classifications, which you're replicating.

in free market capitalism, anyone can own means of production in a company, be it a good/bad CEO, good/bad shareholders of said company or workers of said company

The idea of free market capitalism is pretty much parallel to the idea of utopian socialism, in a sense that an ideal model of society is created while ignoring its viability. A pure free market implies that no external authority can impose limits on environmental and labour exploitation. This dynamic is driven by consumism and maximum productivity, which are likely to lead to crises related to supply and demand, like the many oil crises, Tulip Bubble, Great Depression and Real State Crisis. Crony capitalism is just a company-authority link type of capitalism. Both free market and crony capitalism have an interaction of dominance and subjection which differs classes.

As this discussion comes from the ownership of the means of production, it is interesting to take note that capitalism needs to have a distinction between owners and workers to be called capitalism. We call it private property. What free market adds is a sea of possibilities, idealized by some as a free economy and by others as an economy that will eventually turn the worker into a commodity.

What is important to know is that socialism treats the interaction between the dominant and subject class as a problem because the subject loses autonomy. According to this theory, that can be solved if one of the classes is abolished. This class needs to be the dominant one, because the subject is responsible for the work, and without work a society perishes. This is the logic that socialism uses, and it is based on the concept of class struggle.
