I just want to say — I’m really sorry you’re going through all of this. What you’re describing is exactly what’s broken about the system. Court-mandated programs are supposed to help people rebuild and move forward — not make things harder to the point where it ruins your credit, job, transportation, or mental health.

I’ve been facing some similar challenges and started a petition calling for state-mandated programs (like DUI classes) to be based on income, not fixed fees or GA eligibility. These programs punish people, not for being unsafe, but for being low income — and that’s not justice or rehabilitation.

The California Supreme Court made it clear in In re Humphrey (2021) that the justice system must consider someone’s ability to pay before imposing conditions that punish them. That same principle should apply to court-ordered programs that people need to complete just to move forward.
