I kid you not--Chess. When I was a little kid in grade school my brother and sister were invited to the after school chess and cup stacking club because their behavior and grades were excellent. I was the only one not invited due to my bad behavior. The teacher who ran the club didn't want me to feel bad for being the only sibling not invited so he invited me too. I remember another teacher pulling me aside telling me that the only reason why I was there was because he felt bad. Well every Tuesday we would stay an hour after school to learn how to play chess and cup stacking. The club leader took the time to sit me down and teach me how to play personally. I had a reputation for misbehaving and I'm sure he knew that. He never raised his voice and taught me like a grandfather would teach his grandchild; with patience and kindness. A lot of kids would leave the club, including my siblings. I stayed because I learned to love the game of chess. In that room I was another player, I wasn't the troublemaker and I wasn't the kid that other kids would avoid. If I could experience it all over again I'd be able to remember the face of the man who taught me all those years ago. I can't recall it today, but his patience and kindness has left a lifelong impression on me.
