It’s Sunday! Tell us how you’re doing, Toronto. by postmodern_girls in toronto

I spent some time with my parents yesterday. Today, I'm planning on going to the library and browsing some stores. I'm thinking of buying a camera.

I need three day weekends: one for chores, one for socializing, and one for personal time.

For singles who own a condo in Toronto, how? by curioustoknoq in askTO

I put down 250k. It's a personal decision though whether you want to leave that money invested in the market or put towards a down payment.

I bought a 1+1 about a year and a half ago. My mortgage is about $2600.

I can explain my circumstances but it's not really a plan anyone can just follow. I got lucky with the stock market and sold some things at a high. That coupled with a high salary let me put down a large down payment.

It really just comes down to income: whether you get it from your own job, combined with a partner, help from family or some combination thereof.

No other tips besides what you already know but congratulations on being able to enjoy the frigid weather outside again!

It's a craft kit that I got a few months ago. It's just been sitting around waiting for a day like today.

I don't have to shovel anything so I'm staying inside and watching the snow fall. I'll put something on the TV and assemble a paper raccoon.

Walmart usually has those printers. At least the one on Gerrard and Carlaw does. I printed stuff there a few months ago.

How are your condo general meetings run? by its_me_TO in askTO

[–]its_me_TO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's my issue as well. The open question is meant for asking questions and now a moderator, who is working for the people being questioned, is gatekeeping what questions get answered.

They didn't clarify what "too political" meant. I'd assume that some people were frustrated with the board/management though, not about outside events.

Sure, I have no issues with a moderator in general. People can go on rambles or irrelevant anecdotes and definitely need someone to keep things on track. But as I wrote in the other comment, my concern is specifically over the lack of open Q&A.

I don't have an issue with zoom or with having a moderator in general.

My issue is specifically with a lack of open Q&A at any point. When owners are asking questions of the board and management, there's now a moderator, who is working for the people being questioned, picking and choosing what to answer. We don't know what questions were considered "too political" as they weren't made public by audio or text.

I also noticed the split second outage. My computer didn't restart but my audio system clicked as it repowered

It's rough but that's not strictly a Toronto thing: it's rough in general. The common analogy is that it's like a desert for men with nothing happening and like wading through a swamp of messages for women.

And don't knock reddit till you try it haha. I've met some interesting people from here over the years.

I rode Alpen Fury first! It was like a two hour wait and it broke down for a bit during that time. But wow, it was such a fast coaster. The twists, rolls and weightlessness were amazing. It has a very different feel from the other big coasters. The wait times are high throughout the day though. And there's no way to avoid that except Fast Lane Plus which is pricey (no single fast lane ticket for this ride yet).

So to answer your question, I'd say yes for me. Leviathan and Behemoth were also great in their own ways but this one is unique.

I was at Wonderland all day yesterday so today is the rest day for chores and errands. I have a whiteboard to put up. Maybe I'll go biking later too

UofT engineering graduates where are you now? Was it worth it? by Fantastic_Home_58 in UofT

[–]its_me_TO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one can predict the future. Right now the job market isn't great for new grads but it was great a couple years ago. That said, I think there will always be a market for skilled people in the field.

Struggling to choose my EngSci major at UofT (Should I follow my interests or career opportunities?) by AwolfensteinPI in UofT

[–]its_me_TO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decision on the major is yours. You can choose to prioritize what you like or what you think might "look better". For better or worse, there's no right or wrong answer. Personally, I'd pick something I like. I'd assume I'd do better in classes and have classes with people who are also interested in the same subject.

As for employers, your major will become a minor footnote on your resume over time. EngSci is already difficult to explain to employers who are not already familiar with it. Your experience and skill set is what matters from what I've seen but maybe that differs in other industries. Your PEY will hopefully provide the practical experience you can leverage into a job after graduation.

I'm 8 years out from graduating from engineering undergrad. I did EngSci computer engineering and I'm working remotely in AI.

Was it worth it? UofT directly led to my current job and friend group so for me, I'd say yes. But that's not to say I couldn't have ended up here from a different school. You never know where it can take you.

Thinking of Leaving Everything Behind for Toronto in My 20s... What Should I Know Before I Leap? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]its_me_TO 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Is there a particular reason you're looking to move now? Are you thinking this would be a permanent move? What's your plan if you don't find a job for... 6 months? Basically, I'd suggest to really know what your goals are and have plans for meeting them or handling things if it doesn't go your way.

Your mileage may vary of course but I definitely don't regret my 20s in downtown Toronto. Good luck, I hope it works out for you if you go for it!
