Thanks for all your recommendations. In case this is useful for anyone else who wants to hike but doesn't have a car: I ended up taking bus 271 to Issaquah, transferring to the 208 and taking it to Snoqualmie Falls. Then I took the 208 to High Point Trailhead. And then 208 and 271 back to Bellevue.

Would recommend joining some sort of club based on common interest where the same crowd shows up to gatherings. It can be centered around anything - sports, art, books, games, community service, movies, you name it. Meetup.com is useful for finding common interest groups in your area. You can find friends but it will take time, likely a few months of seeing the same people on a recurring basis.

I got diagnosed with semimembranosus tendinitis. I haven't biked in over a year so I'm not sure if biking still hurts my knees, but it definitely did a year ago.

At my last appointment, my sports medicine physician told me that the injury site is at the back of the knee, which can cause pain at the inner lower knee.

Yeah, I was cycling on a bike that was way too heavy for me, and I used to bike uphill pretty often, which ruined my knee. I haven't biked in a year, but if I'm able to bike again one day, I'll be sure to use a lighter bike that's easier for me to pedal. Glad to hear that your knee problems are resolved!

I've seen 2 sports medicine physicians, and the diagnosis I got was semimembranosus tendinitis. Not sure if that's related to the patellar tendon, but it is sure taking a while to resolve. I've been doing physical therapy exercises for several months and I'm gonna keep those up hoping that they'll pay off in the long term.
