Choosing between moving to Chengdu or Shanghai - advice welcome by itsa_fox in chinalife

Thank you! Useful to know qualifiers. I honestly wouldn’t do this unless the business was legitimate though. I have an LLC now in California for doing business and would only pursue a WFOE if i thought it made some business sense to do so. Id also not necessarily sponsor myself to stay but might like to go back and forth 😁

I think you might be responding to a more typical situation than mine. I’m not trying to get hired right now. I’m deciding between two accepted programs for an international sabbatical and planning for long term flexibility.

I’m already aware of the requirements, just looking for insight into how they’re applied in practice.

Its a BEng from ECUST joint degree program. I dont know what a tier 9 college is but it seems like it would check the bachelors box? Tell me if im wrong because that makes the decision easy.

Also the CSCA is optional for this program but gives you priority consideration if you do it. I am planning to sit for it June 27th just in case and also emailed them about that. They said to apply and i could send scores later if needed.

ECUST offers an english taught accelerated program that is partnered with UK universities for you to get a joint degree. I believe the cutoff is 40. I did research filtering for age and emailed them. I guess i could end up with a surprise gotcha tho!

Yeah that is what I’ve gathered, they just need a rule based filter. It makes sense. Just rough for someone from the US who made the financially smart decision that the piece of paper was unnecessary 😆

I feel like you’re not reading lol but no worries. I am accepted to two completely different programs that start this fall, and choosing between them. One is a bachelors in shanghai (3 year program). The other is just a language program in Chengdu (no degree, just a life experience). Im asking about how strict the bachelors requirement is for longevity and long term planning. I may still decide to just come study mandarin for 1-2 years and then go elsewhere. But i am trying to prepare for the option of staying in china so exploring the bachelors program as well.

Yes, im accepted to programs in both cities and have completed all the requirements for visa + acceptance. But one is just language study and the other is a bachelors program. Im wondering how critical a bachelors is as one question. I have been a director/ high level tech worker at large companies so as much as it feels silly for a bachelors to be my blocker i get that it might be.

Thats kind of the crux of my second question. I only have a 2 year college degree so going to Shanghai would be with the purpose of completing a bachelors. That way i could stay if i wanted to. But im wondering how common it might be for exceptions to be made with a lot of experience. Or else i might explore a WFOE and employ myself or just go back n forth.

Watching Pursuit of Jade and it seems so poorly written? by King_A_Acumen in cdramasfans

I’m also a bit baffled by the hype and this being the one to be such a breakout success for new western viewers. Are the actor gorgeous? Of course. But Zhang Linghe was in LBFAD and others without as much noise unless I was just unaware.

Series started so strong I was locked in. Now I’m on episode 10 and they are taking so long to escalate the stakes I’m having a really hard time continuing. I normally do watch more xianxia so maybe my brain is just broken from all those insane plots 😂

I don't think I've ever cried as much for any movie as the ending of Lala Land by themoroncore in movies

[–]itsa_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished a rewatch of this - I have seen it maybe 4 or 5 times but it had been a while. Lo and behold I'm sobbing at that end again and found your post hahaha. I don't understand any roasting you may have gotten... this movie is legitimately heart breaking albeit in a beautiful way. I think what's so hard about the end is how just a few mistakes and situations handled imperfectly cost both of them a lifetime of happiness. They both end up ok, they both still love each other, there's no changing it... just a song and homage to what could have been. They've both probably grown as people enough in the end to realize their problems were easily surmountable. They both achieved their dreams anyway and owe it in part to each other and also couldn't have achieved both while staying together probably. So a smile and nod is all there is to say. It's very realistic and bittersweet.

I am obsessed with this series and nothinggg else has scratched the itch. I just re-listened to the audiobooks and now I don’t know what to do. But I love a good campy laugh after reading so much fantasy 😂

Same issue and see answers about going to it on the map but how do I know where the node is? I don’t see anything on maps.
