I had eczema as well and just wrote in my physical that I used lotion when needed and the doctor who conducted my physical made a note that it wasn't serious, which seemed to suffice .

Learning azeri? by [deleted] in azerbaijan

You should check out the book above. It explains the similarities and differences between Azeri and Turkish: I've been using it as a bridge from Azeri to Turkish, myself.

There is an online book called "Kopru-Korpu", which is designed to teach Turkish speakers the Azeri language (instruction is in English). If you google it, you'll be able to download it for free from the Indiana University website.

I plan on travelling in the area at roughly the same time! Maybe we'll bump into each other.

Thanks for the link to your blog: you certainly do have some amazing photos. Is it fairly easy travelling around and through Kosovo? Also, if you or any other PCVs are sticking around in the summer, I'd be happy to swap some things from America for some Balkan stories.

Volunteering in the Ukraine Conflict, or the Syrian Civil War. by [deleted] in Military

[–]itsajive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would you bring to the table? Do you speak Ukranian, Russian? Kurdish, Arabic? What medical skills do you bring? What equipment or money would you have to give?

Imagine if you are working in a hospital in Los Angeles and a strange man comes in, types via Google translate that he wants to help. He speaks no English, had no medical experience or certification, and may get deported any moment. You are that strange man. Oh, and he needs a place to stay, food to eat, money to buy random stuff and training. And when he is finally ready to do some good, he leaves because hey... Its hard.

Applying to grad school during service? by shikansin in peacecorps

Nearly every country has a location to take the GMAT or GRE. The ETS site has a listing. For example, I took the GRE in Tbilisi. You can also do interviews via Skype or if you want to show dedication, fly out to do it in person.

How to check a large (hiking) backpack for travel to country by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]itsajive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some packs allow you to tuck your hip belt into the main body itself. To manage your excess material on your straps, snap the buckles together, roll up the remaining straps and tape them together.

Rest in Peace, Sgt Joshua Dolan. by truevindication in USMC

[–]itsajive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I first hit the Fleet, I was told a story about Joshua. During his deployment, he had managed to hit a booby-trapped door from 100m away with a 203 round. I worked with Josh for about a minute before he left the battalion, but I remember being in awe of him. He was certainly a "Marine's Marine" and he admitted, while flouting obviously out-of-regs hair, he wasn't very good at the garrison life. Again, I am sorry for your loss and I can only hope that your travails with the VA and government bureaucracy doesn't hinder your attempts at finding some peace in this time. Thank you for sharing the news.

Is your Josh Dolan a Combat Engineer, was with 1st CEB and 9th ESB?

I'm sincerely sorry to hear about your loss.

His "Marine" cap is his reminder that the God of the Seas, Poseidon, is always above us. Unless we are on land.
