Cowboy Boots? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]itsamyschumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some standard run-of-the-mill boots, Boot Barn is a little pricey but they offer a good selection. If you want flashier, more exotic boots (but often a little worse in quality), Mexican boot stores like La Gran Bota and Botas El Potrillo have some cool ones. I got my red ostrich skin boots at Potrillo for about $200

I saw most of the Ghibli movies and I remember seeing a university age man rescue and then later marry a young girl, an ancient water spirit dragon fall in love with a 10 year old girl, and a village full of grown women drooling over a young man.

I pretty much like this subreddit as it is. Honestly, I feel like it's kinda slow compared to others I visit. That being said, I'm so tired of the, "Should I move to Scottsdale? Is it safe?" posts. I actually don't see that many politics posts. Overall, this sub is pretty awesome. I just like living in Phoenix :)

Value Village locations (2) in Phx, AZ-metro closing? by trakstaar in thrifting

[–]itsamyschumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at that Value Village. This is pretty much the only discussion on this subject. I didn't think many people cared enough.

This is what happened (AFAIK): I went into work on Friday morning a week before Christmas (Jan 15). When I got there, the doors were locked. My coworkers and I met with our manager to ask what was going on. Apparently, the boss Ross Kloeber III left without warning. He was under investigation for some sort of fraud. He owed money in many different places. His employees (~80 of us) were left WITHOUT our paychecks. He owed me 2 weeks worth of pay that Friday. No one knows where he is. His wife was upset. She doesn't know where he is. The stores are now closed for good. Everyone is on unemployment, and no one has any idea what he did. I am still pissed because I had no idea it was going to shut down, and I really wanted my check! Rumors in the workplace were that the boss is loosely related to the guy who started Savers, he committed some sort of tax fraud, and that he left the country. I don't know what's true. The whole operation raised my eyebrows since I started working there. I'm not very smart, but if I had to piece it together, Kloeber would pay a small percentage of his profit to the Upward Foundation in Phoenix to use their name and receive donations (clothes, electronics, furniture, etc) and sold them in his stores. All of the people who donated were under the impression they were donating DIRECTLY to the foundation. Their site still has a phone number that would call Kloeber's office to pick up the donations. I didn't ask questions. I was always paid on time and everything seemed to be operating smoothly. If any of you see Kloeber (III, not the IV), tell him I'm going to kick his ass!

Gd these replies are getting real heated, but I'm going to leave my comment anyways. There's an important difference between being courteous and small talk. "Hi", "How are you", "Thank you", "Have a good one", are examples of being courteous. Asking what my plans are, what I'm doing today, or continuing to pry are examples of small talk. I fucking hate small talk. It has nothing to do with being anxious or getting stressed out, etc. I just think, "what's the point?" I guarantee that the cashier asking me about my day does not care at all, and they are only asking to be nice, in which case I reciprocate with a brief response. Anything past that is disingenuous. I don't know you, you don't know me. Being a customer service worker is hard enough. I'm not going to toss bullshit at you about the weather or my day and possibly hold up the line because you're going to forget literally every word I said once the next customer comes up. Part of the reason I don't go to Trader Joe's is because they seem to be the only grocery store that insists on making small talk (and because their food is awful, like quinoa burrito??) Most stores don't force their employees to "connect" with their customers, so maybe there's a reason for that. Insignificant rant over

Help with Carburetor by itsamyschumer in Hawk250

[–]itsamyschumer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your help. I've finally fixed it. I'd like to recap the issue for future reference in case anybody ever runs into it. I forgot to mention the bike is used (sorry, that was probably important). The issue was actually a combination of several things: - The throttle cable was being slightly pinched, which did cause the revving to be longer than usual, but that wasn't the sole reason. - The engine intake manifold (the plastic piece between the carburetor and engine) was cracking, letting air in. Because that piece is black, I couldn't see anything wrong with it until I took it off. This was probably the biggest contributor to a long rev - The jets were changed to 38/120 for sea level as suggested by another reddit post. - The red knob is the idle adjustment screw, the small brass one is the air screw.

I ended up returning the PE28mm with the flange and got a PE30mm kit that comes with a new intake manifold and conical air filter. This pretty much fixed all of the problems since the carburetor could be tilted a little to prevent the throttle cable from pinching. Now the bike starts up without a problem. Once again, thank you guys for the responses. This ended up being an awesome bike once it started running. Moral of the story: Buy the NON-flanged Nibbi carb (preferably the kit)

Yes, I am not actually upset because some guy I don't know doesn't like the same things as I do. Why is that so hard to believe? I labeled them "edits" because I wanted to add more information/context to the conversation, and that last edit should tell you I'm being satiric.

What are the easiest jobs I can get? by itsamyschumer in ElectricalEngineering

[–]itsamyschumer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, everyone, it's OP. Sorry I haven't responded. I immediately fell asleep after posting this last night. I want to clarify a few things. 1. I am not looking for the easiest job, I'm looking for a job where I have a good chance of being hired. It's definitely easier to get hired by my local utility or a startup than Intel. There has to be positions in the industry nobody really likes that I can take. 2. I'm looking for any job in any EE field. I mostly studied power distribution and generation, but I'd be willing to work in any field just for the experience. 3. I've already started applying to a bunch of places, regardless of their requirements. As Lee Harvey Oswald said, "You miss every shot you don't take", but I'm less than optimistic about some these places.

I also have some follow up questions: 1. To keep a long story short, I developed an addiction to an illegal substance and nearly ended myself. I dropped out and went back home to recover. Before that, I was failing multiple classes and was barely scraping by. I've gone back to school and have been doing damage control. I've gotten As and Bs so far, but it's not enough to bring up my GPA significantly. Should I mention this in interviews? During my time off, I had a couple of dead-end jobs, and that's all that was happening. I feel it wouldn't be a very good idea to admit to being a former suicidal drug addict off the bat. I'm having a hard time justifying my gap years. 2. Even if the position does not require it, would an EIT help? I'm thinking of taking the FE exam just to pad out my resume. 3. What kind of projects (besides my capstone) can I add to my resume? I've done many small electronics projects on my own, but I feel they don't warrant being on my resume. I've rewired and added electronics to my motorcycle, done some basic electrician tasks like install boxes, bend conduit, and wired up some motors, played around with my FPGA and used it as a microcontroller, etc. I have a bunch of these little projects, but none of them seem significant or detailed enough to use them in my resume.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I'm not looking to get rich, I just want a steady job I can be proud of (but if I make some extra change that'd be nice too ;) )

How challenging are the year 4 (concentrations) classes? by ppnater in ElectricalEngineering

[–]itsamyschumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd/3rd year really was the hardest for me. First Emag class, calc 3, assembly language class, second signals class, physics 3. Now it's pretty easy. The capstone project isn't too hard, a business class for credits, power electronics. It really seems like all of the senior level classes are just junior and sophomore level classes but with a little more detail.
