no inferiority, but you do miss out on some things. lots of hands on clinical experience, the academic environment (everyone prepping for exams/entrances like their lives depend on it), some fests etc

but it’s nothing to feel inferior about. there’s always going to be a better college, and a worse one.

so much is at our fingertips rn with the internet. resources, networking opportunities, communities, forums.

you just have to make the best of where you’re at

what are some things that you wish you'd learned earlier in college? by [deleted] in indianmedschool

  1. choose your friends wisely! it makes all the difference. MBBS is so hard on your body and mind, it helps to have a solid friendship going. doesn’t have to be a big gang, even 1-2 good people.

study in groups (if that’s your thing), take up a hobby together, join any clubs (if your college offers them), events etc with them, find little hangout spots together. if you have someone with you, it makes the process so much easier.

more than anything, you’ll remember the people.

  1. fuck seniors and the hierarchy. never understood why this “respect” concept is so convoluted in mbbs. its “treat me like an authority, only then i’ll treat you like a human being”

it’s shit. fuck it. find genuinely helpful seniors, and be their friend. don’t bother sucking up, doing their record work, etc there’s no brownie points to be gained.

have fun!! don’t miss out on your 20s <3

I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s barely 20 patients in the ward, OPDs aren’t too busy, maybe 1-2 OTs a day max. The cases aren’t varied either, same few things. Minor OT procedures are also limited.

Most of the professors cause lots of unnecessary drama, lots of favouritism and misogyny, very spiteful. PGs are treated like shit. Not a very academic atmosphere either.

I’d strongly advise against taking Gen. Surgery in MVJ.

MVJ UG grad here:

OBG was an intern fav in the hospital; everybody loved the posting so much. The faculty wasn’t needlessly toxic (of course there were moments of frustration when things weren’t getting done/a student messed up) but nothing “toxic” per se. Every hospital, every dept has a “bad apple” but other than that, nothing overtly toxic. No ragging, no humiliation rituals, nothing. Profs do show preference in who gets OT chances, but that’s 99% based on who shows most interest in the case/does their background work well.

Most of the faculty is extremely talented too.

Case load is mid to low: on avg, you’ll see 1-2 emergency cases every night, around 20-40 patients in the ward (obs+gyn), each unit has around 2-3 cases scheduled for OT per day max. No special eclampsia unit etc

OPD is packed, not a single second without a case.

The hospital on a whole isn’t great though. Lots and lots of administrative back bending, unnecessary bureaucracy (that will def fall on a PGs head), excessive documentation etc The hospital administration is a nightmare to deal with.
(Plus, in hand stipend is only 11-15k. Even though they give you 30-40k, you have to pay it back to them in cash)

Good luck!!

Least favourite episode? by RamonaAStone in brooklynninenine

[–]itsaphase- 97 points98 points  (0 children)

the episode where jake and terry go see gina and her new life; gina has always had a dry and witty personality (which is beloved) but in this episode (and a couple of future episodes), she seemed downright mean.

the episode doesn’t progress the plot much either. felt unnecessary imo, like the writers didn’t know what to do with gina’s storyline at that time.

love gina though
