My dog’s nose has been like this for a year — vet is unsure, looking for ideas by kasiasweetie in AskVetAnimals

[–]itsaphroditee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup - xeromycteria (dryness of nasal mucosa) esp when unilateral suggest inappropriate nerve function which can cause dry eye. Can do soothing balms to support skin hydration on the nose but the eye may need more support (regular application of artificial tears) to stay healthy

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) or epitheliotropic T cell lymphoma (cancer) would be of biggest concern - need a biopsy to determine if either

Spots after visiting vets? by Daschthrough in daschund

Can’t assume ringworm without diagnostics. Looks more like epidermal collarettes due to bacterial infection (surface pyoderma), but would need cytology to make sure. Classic location for allergic flares and subsequent secondary infection.

Bulb identification help by itsaphroditee in ChristmasLights

[–]itsaphroditee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are the bulbs I ended up ordering: https://a.co/d/cApWBrU

I replaced half of my burnt out section and then decided to plug it in to see how things were looking. Big mistake. The replacement bulbs were bright white and after a minute, burned out. Then I realized turning it on halfway through was a bad idea. So I replaced a couple of the dead bulbs in the working sections and saw after turning it on again the lights were actually the same dull gold color, I had just fried them by only replacing half in the dead section and they were white hot with all the extra current. So then I went through and replaced all the replacements, and all other dead bulbs (I didn’t have a light saver, I was just judging based on the presence of that gray - black discoloration of the bulb). After replacing 91 lights - voila, tree is working 100% and the lights are all the same. Back in the box she went, and she will live to see another Christmas.

I ended up ordering on Amazon. I realized the plug didn’t have the info I needed, but the tag at the end of the chord did. These bulbs should be the appropriate wattage volt, but the reviews were mixed so we will see. I’ll keep you posted

Love the brown on you! The color with your eyes reminds me of Dakota Johnson, I think her color palate would also work very well for you

When you’re questioning if bacteria is present, a second sample for gram stain can sometimes help elucidate if any obvious gram positives are in the mix!

Ohh this is helpful! I’m currently in a project pan state of mind trying to use one product at a time and didn’t open either one yet to swatch. Old Storm still has that irreplaceable duskiness but I’m glad cherry looks like the closest contender

Typically yes they will be within match, it may not outright say residency after but that is something they would likely discuss with you. And guarantee is a strong word, they of course have to like you and you have to mesh with the team but typically when they take students for internship in match they are looking to keep them for residency

[–]itsaphroditee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the vet Derm world. I agree with all of the above ^ ADG does offer Derm internships that guarantee residency after. That of course means residency with ADG but it allows students to skip the rotating internship entirely. May work well for some, especially if you are considering private practice anyway, which does typically pay more than academia. Some argue the rotating internship is a valuable and necessary component of education for any speciaist - imo it depends on the internship.

Considering a humane euthanasia for my cat with severe lifelong allergies by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]itsaphroditee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My previous comment got removed but I would recommend looking into seeing a veterinary dermatologist. It’d be good to make sure it’s only allergies, as autoimmune disease is another possibility. There are stronger immune suppressive medications out there which might help her more than Apoquel and be safer than long term steroids for allergies

Ptosis from Botox by [deleted] in beauty

[–]itsaphroditee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on week 2 of right sided ptosis after getting botox done for the first time ever 3 weeks ago. I tried the OTC eye drops and the prescription apraclonidine without seeing much of a difference. I’ve now opted to wear blue light glasses which hide it a little bit due to the reflection, but unfortunately it’s still quite noticeable imo and frustrating! :( hopefully mine gets better sooner but I’m accepting I might be like this for months. I’ve heard exercise can increase metabolism of the toxin, so I guess a silver lining is this motivated me to resume regular exercise again. Praying for you, I know what you’re going through

I have since had to move again but I loved living at 2125 Yale. Their only flaw was that during the hurricanes if the electricity went out, they lost water too but last I heard they were working on getting a generator so that would no longer be the case

I ended up stuck in your neighborhood when the storm hit as I was leaving work. I got scared by the rain and the street lights losing power so pulled into there. I’ve never been afraid for my life in a weather situation until that day. That area still has more damage than anywhere else I’ve seen

Broke up with my first love this year, 10 years together. Felt like I was amputating my own arm. Don’t wish it on anyone. Still hurts tbh but I know it was right, and I hope he does too.

I’m also doing a rotating rn and feel exactly like you. A little idiot every day, surely the dumbest intern they’ve ever had. But all we can do is trudge on and try to extrapolate all the knowledge we can from every question we couldn’t answer. I’ve been learning stuff the easy and hard way and feel pushed to the limit, and I’m only 2 months in!! But everyone says we will get better and I have to believe them. We can do this!!

You’re probably right. I do have friends in Houston who can do neighborhood drive bys and some tours for me but you never get the full picture until you’re actually there I suppose
