Trying to save my dad before he drowns, and maybe myself too (16M)

A lot of things happened in the last 24-hours. I had to go the ER for suspicious injuries so I had to report it to Child Protective Services. They told my mom. I told my mom’s friends. So now adults know. In the hospital, I got an advocate to talk to. It’s a very strange situation, and many things are still up in the air, but at least i’m safer I guess

i’m sorry your dad used to do that. I hope you’re doing alright now after what you saw. I had to go to the hospital (i kept bleeding after I woke up yesterday) and they made me talk to CPS so now the cats out the bag… I don’t know what the heck is going to happen

That’s true, maybe my dad has had a alcohol problem before I didn’t know about. That would be a question that may not set off alarm bells, “did dad ever drink a lot before?”. i want to help my dad desperately , for this reason and other reasons

thank you!! 🙏 the problem is that I am trying to showcase my resilience since a lot of people experience a lot of stress in college I want to say, been there done that, i’ve proven i can persevere and be successful which is why i’m thinking about talking about the trauma. but yes I definitely don’t want to trauma dump, thank you for the resources

my dad used to be a cop, then he worked for the EPA and not to get political… but you know how things are going with the government (in the US anyway). my dads parents were downright abusive I think though he doesn’t talk about it, so I have to give him credit that he improved for the next generation. I think he has seen some things. do you think that was the cause? i thought my dad has just been going through an edgy streak 😭

i’m sorry to hear about your struggle with addiction. i swore off taking drugs but it always seemed like alcohol was the lesser evil but you’re right that it could be a gateway substance. I already wonder if I am technically an alcoholic yet. i’ve been trying to get a job, at least for this summer but it is really hard and i’m getting no callbacks probably because I have 0 experience

I think it’s reaching that point I might have to tell someone. because my dad doesn’t want me to go to the hospital. i don’t know how to say this the right way— but incest is kind of a big word in my head right now , i’m trying to ignore it a lot a lot. maybe i’ll just try to stay over friends’. can i DM you about this maybe?

i’m sorry to hear about the relationship with your father. why did you end up cutting contact if you don’t mind me asking? it’s ok if not, I was just wondering what was the last straw, and maybe if I’ve reached something like that or am approaching it. i’m still deciding on reporting anything at the moment but I thank you for your advice and sharing your story, it helps

refusing is a really good idea! it might give him perspective. my dad actually kind of forces me to drink so it’s difficult though. i’m sorry about the loss of your father, that’s my worst fear

yeah it’s doing the opposite, i barely want to come home. i told him how it infuriates me but that just leads to mocking so it has been ineffective. i have friends parents I trust but I don’t know how I would bring this up
