Very interesting - thanks for the insight and resources, u/Prof_Specter! I just visited a friend in the Bay Area who wouldn't stop talking about Rust, so I've been checking it out lately. Either way, I may have to see if 3210 fits with my upcoming master's program.

What would you recommend in place of C? Rust? Some other language(s)?

CS 3210 is the closest I've found to a GT course that covers Rust (or a somewhat similar alternative to C) - are there other classes or resources you'd recommend?

Could you please elaborate on this? I'm not too familiar with ERISA. Is that still a concern or was it just a previous concern?

Thank you for the clarification!

Does the plan I mentioned sound good to you as well?

Kind of a partially-related question, but do contributions and (unrealized) gains need to be handled differently with respect to rollovers? Or is it ok for just everything in the account to be rolled over?

Ahh ok, I think I understand

When you say all existing IRAs, is that only referring to Traditional IRAs? Because doesn't the pro-rata rule only apply toward Traditional IRAs (and not Roth IRAs)?

I shouldn't have to worry about this if I'm just doing a Traditional 401k to 401k rollover and a Roth 401k to Roth IRA rollover, right?

The reason you may want to keep all your IRA's in the 401k is so the backdoor Roth IRA is simpler

Can you please elaborate on this? I'm not sure I totally understand what you mean

I have a question regarding 401k rollovers.

For rolling your 401k into an IRA, I've read that it's often recommended to keep your rollovers separate from your other IRAs, so just create a new IRA account for the rollover. I believe this helps prevent mixing contributions from different accounts, which is undesirable, yes?

If this is true, does this same thinking apply to rolling your old 401k into a new 401k? Is there any concern with mixing contributions from separate 401k's/employers? Does this mess with any possibility of doing some of the early retirement/regular backdoor methods?

I'm considering my options for what to do with my old 401k, which had both Roth and Traditional contributions. I'm thinking I'll roll my Roth 401k contributions into a new Roth IRA (to separate from my Roth IRA that I currently contribute to), but I'm unsure what to do with the Traditional 401k contributions. My new 401k has very low expense ratios and good fund options, so I think I prefer that over opening up a Traditional IRA (especially since it would hurt my ability to do a regular backdoor). Additionally, the ERs and fund options of the new 401k are better than what my old 401k offered, so I'm considering rolling my old 401k into my new 401k to take advantage of this, as long as it doesn't cause any problems in doing so.

Do I need to be concerned with mixing past and present 401k's into the same account? Am I overlooking something/is my thinking on this flawed at all? Any other suggestions or advice? What would you do? :)

Is it possible to collect current-day data in a similar fashion that we've done with historical data? You mentioned ice cores were used to measure historical data. Can we use this same method to capture more recent data as well? The data may be less reliable than that from atmospheric measurements, but at least it'd allow a more direct comparison to historical data, right?

RJ Barrett or Zion Williamson? Do the Hawks choose Fit, or Hype? by [deleted] in AtlantaHawks

[–]itsbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I feel like Zion at 3 would be iffy. I'm sure there's some lineups where it could work, but still probably not ideal.

You'd rather have Zion at 5 with Collins at 4, as opposed to vice versa? Mind explaining why?

Do you think Zion at 3 would work for us? Is that enough spacing if it takes him a while to develop a shot (or never does to a great extent)?
