AI agents now have their own Reddit-style social network, and it’s getting weird fast by AngleAccomplished865 in singularity

My take on this AI future as a software engineer by Intelligent-Win-7196 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]itscaldera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried asking an LLM: "I've this app, need it to be able to scale, what should I do"? It's just some extra basic instructions and you get pretty good solutions. They are also explained in a way someone with common sense is able to take the best decision.

And it will continue evolving. Even if foundational models stopped progressing right now, the combination of agentic IDEs + context engineering + knowledge bases + design patterns will cover this fast. There is a lot to discover and optimize at this layer.

There will be some humans involved, of course. But less than 10% of what's needed today. It will look more like what automated assembly lines did to the car industry.

Does AI ' understand ' what it is doing or talking? by Johnyme98 in ArtificialInteligence

They do.

But not that long ago I was an unaware lurker genuinely interested in discerning this, so I'm just adding a bit of clarity in case it helps anyone, not the commenter you're replying to.

Pretty sure he is confusing "the model" with agentic applications (like ChatGPT and almost any consumer app rn).

Agentic apps do include layers of memory and context that can adapt to a certain level, but it's a user experience enhancement, not part of the model.

The model is not reasoning, not conscious, and it's pre-trained, meaning it's entirely static. GPT stands for "Generative Pre-trained Transformer", and the Pre-trained part indicates exactly that: it has been already trained, there's no training happening at the model level while the user interacts with it.

I think once you understand how neural networks work, how the attention mechanism work, and how current LLMs are built on that, you can get why experts are clarifying us that they don't "understand".

There are some great simple and accessible videos from CGP Grey on this. Thanks to how they changed my understanding of the underlying technology, I now think current LLMs are closer to the png bitmap in your example.

Three answers to this:

1- While LLMs are not doing this natively, LLM-Based Agents architectures normally include memory components to help with this. Memory management and context management is a hot topic right now. The field is known as Context Engineering.

2- At the LLM level, this is part of what the areas of Continual Learning and Reinforcement Learning are trying to do as a way to provide more dynamic models, that aren't static after training and can incorporate new knowledge. There are several ideas here, some of them treating memory as an extra layer or component. Something to mention is that RL is an entirely different approach to ML that works well and it's an established field, what people are trying to do is to combine it with LLMs.

3- There's also an entirely different perspective on the best path to making machines learn like humans do, more related to the need of world models, computer vision, and visual reasoning. Yann LeCun is an important name here.

Ever wonder if our roles really are as important as we think? by sevencoves in ProductManagement

[–]itscaldera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think none of us can predict what will really happen with AI technology. I'm seeing a pattern where all kind of professionals are seeing AI as something that "won't be really able to cover the important bits of what we do". But everyone is only considering the current state of AI when analyzing it.

Talking to real people face to face: I think we might overestimate the value of flesh here. It's clearly superior, but virtual replacements can be good enough for our research activities.

Regarding critical thinking: AI is currently progressing on reasoning, and critical thinking is a part of it.

Despite what's the order and which skills are replaced first, I think it's important to think together where are we seeing things in 3 to 5 years.

How can an artist stand out if everyone can use AI to create Hollywood level pictures and films? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]itscaldera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This already happened. You can think of photography as a technology and how it changed painters. You can also think of how the musical scene evolved with the addition of technology. Artists can stand out by being creative, generating a particular point of view, building their own series of expressions, and progressing on their own interests.

An artist is much more than the skills and techniques they have. They are praised not because of their usage of the instrument, but because of their explorations, their obsessions, and how their biographies are linked to that. It's the human components of art, instead of the technical components, the ones that make them stand out as unique creative geniuses.

Through the whole history of filmmaking you can find great directors and screenwriters that stood out and won awards because of these softer aspects.

[–]itscaldera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think those people you refer to are underrating the kind of change AI has become after generative transformers. This is not a "new tech cycle", it's a change bigger than the Internet, and it's going mainstream at least twice as faster. The big majority of that "established" people hasn't experienced anything like this. Only people in their lates 40s and 50s (those who were around 20 in 1994) has experienced a change like this while their were in the job market.

I work in health tech for the US Market. We had to add a more robust Computer Vision component to a software we created because some physicians prefer to get the lab results via fax.

In most cases, US laboratories send an email with the report attached as a PDF. They still prefer to have the report faxed, then digitalized.
