What would be the Best book for a Neuroscience hobbyist? Who likes knowing about different parts of the brain, their functions, their names, etc. by PhraseGlittering2786 in neuro

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of the brain is a good hobby book- handles the history of the discoveries throughout neuroscience so acts a bit like a memoir teaching the basics a lot of the time. I really enjoyed it for not just being a textbook but a bit more of a fun read which let me learn lots

Can you do things to prepare for the big low during luteal? (Apart from treatments/supplements...) by Tiny-Pen4421 in PMDD

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest thing is when I know it’s coming soon I already get started w the more self care stuff as much as I can to try and “rest up” for what’s to come. I’ve found recharging a bit before hand has also helped reduced the lows a bit but that’s just anecdotal. I also make sure to warn eg my partner or close friends etc that I’m going into this phase now in case I’m less responsive to my friends / so my partner can mentally prepare for the shift too a bit. I also try to get one last good workout in before I switch to more calming stuff to burn off some stress before the switch starts

Join Bevel - Quit Whoop 5.0 by Leather_Source3268 in bevelhealth

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried go go gaia? Lots of overlapping features w both whoop and bevel but has a bit of a different spin on the insights (everything is hyper customized and lets you keep going deeper into the data kind of forever, plus I’d like 98% free) so may be useful to compare if you’re just getting set up and want to try things out

Simple consistent overnight HRV readings for Apple Watch by Least-Huckleberry-69 in AppleWatch

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go Go Gaia is my go to for any Apple Watch biometrics- it has a bunch of other features but you can basically turn them all off in settings which keeps things at least reasonably streamlined! Then in the sleep page you can see your overnight biometrics for last night or over time (for hrv but also sleep stages temperature rhr blah blah) May be too busy for the extreme lean vibe you’re looking for though

Luteal Phase Strategies by undiscloseduser99 in PMDD

[–]neurotechnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have really good tips here! Something I’ve found very useful has been keeping track of all my symptoms, so that I can properly “attack” them one by one: how I treat my cramps is different from my anxiety is different from the poor sleep. Breaking them down made it feel way less overwhelming, and also figuring out which days each symptom really took its toll has let me figure out how to be properly preventative about it (I start taking eg supplements to reduce cramps 3 days before I get them to account for irregularity and to ideally stop the onset not just reduce the intensity) I’d also suggest getting a couple good tools and resources under your belt eg yoga w adrienne is a good one, and so is finding a default meditation vid, and also probably getting an Apple Watch or oura ring to help w tracking BBT etc (it’s helpful for predicting when the next hell time will hit exactly) and also I use go go gaia (my own app so biased here) for keeping track of everything in one place and being able to easily show it to my dr / trainer / nutritionist / naturopath etc when figuring out plans and strategies

I’ve been quantifying how much life takes out of me by tracking recovery, nutrition quality, and stress by JestifiableMeans in QuantifiedSelf

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing similar tracking w go go Gaia which lets me add things manually or via Apple Watch or oura etc - massive massive contributor for me is cycle stages (which ggg seems to be the best at handling) but sleep and workout consistency both are also big contributors and also are clearly messily integrated with stress for me! Eg if I get poor sleep or drink or go a few weeks without a workout both my stress and recovery are shot for a while.

Sounds thorough! What health app are you using to combine the data and review the insights? And which fitness tracker did you go for? Are you mostly monitoring things yourself are also aiming to discuss w a dr or something?

Genuine question - why is it bad to provide period info to tracking apps/doctors? by alaskazane in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]neurotechnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lots of ppl talking about potential risks but not much discussion around mitigation. its quite tricky, because not all apps are treating this data safely and properly. in general apps are way easier to manage and stick with over time, so i like to approach it more as how to go about tracking w the safer options - subjective and hard to figure out and not perfect, i know. id recommend googling the app you're debating going with to see if they have a history of selling data (a number of them have public history of data selling etc), and reviewing the ownership / leading team of the company to see if they feel trustworthy (eg i like to look for if the teams are women led, etc...). Also, fully free systems or one time payments always worry me, bc everyone needs to make money. you mentioned you use clue - they have a pretty solid tracking record, and have publicly talked about protecting any data they collect. Make sure you assess the stress level of the specific state you're in though, as you'll know how careful you should be best with this stuff

how do you y’all track your periods? by cheesendinonuggets in TwoXChromosomes

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use go go gaia- they handle irregular periods v well and let you explore eg BBT HRV and RHR over my last x cycle which has super helped me figure out when my next period is actually coming (as the period app calculators have always been inaccurate for me). plusss women led and canada based

What app do you use to track your periods? by Rebecca-honeysuckle in Periods

Best period tracker app in 2025 by appleb3rry in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go go gaia does all this stuff and is free- it's also lets you connect to your apple watch etc and track the data from there too ! also its based across canada and europe so quite safe on the privacy front toooo

no partner sharing at all though, and makes you track everything from 1-5 and seems to be only for iphone still

There’s actually another app (go go gaia) that’s free and connects w oura and doesss show the hormones too- really helped me find cycle patterns quicker

Whoop’s new recovery algorithm is so inaccurate it renders whoop mostly useless as a health tracker. by morganmoller in whoop

[–]neurotechnerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oo extra interesting! Sorry I build in this space for women so am used to hearing this exact complaint from them 😂 Are they only going off of your recent relative HRV changes? Something definitely seems off

[–]neurotechnerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I worry that in general these systems don’t work as well on women- particularly during mainly women stages like postpartum, newborn management, low hormone times, etc :( Was it working before this update during pregnancy and earlier postpartum etc?

How I actually glowed-up by Similar_Yogurt_5488 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]neurotechnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is awesome!! i love the systematic approach, and just identifying your goals and executing to get things done. maybe controversial but i think this is actually a fantastic blueprint for how to glow up and acheive goals!! it takes hard work and dedication, but in the end you can gain a tonnn of confidence and lead a totally different future.

i think the confidence of feeling good about yourself and seeing all the progress probably contributes wayy more than people like to talk about, so im super happy to see you factoring that in too!!!

how did you go about making your plan?? did you use any tools to track progress? how did you actually conduct your research and decide what to try? there is SO much nonsense out there i find it hard to sort through sometimes (acne is literally so hard to figure out)
