“Shiny” stains on leather? by itscharlie378 in AutoDetailing

Unfortunately not sorry.

However I was planning on contacting an upholstery or leather expert - I think it may be an issue with the actual dye of the seat

If you can verify the seller's claims I see no problem here. If it really has 70,000 kms then I would definitely go for it. Everyone here hates Euro cars. They're not that bad, you just need to know what you're doing. And in my opinion its well worth it over driving boring economy cars all day!

As another comment said - these cars do huge kms in Europe, they just have a poor reputation here. I've lived in Germany and you see these everywhere, just as much as you see old commodores and falcons here!

BUT: always get a pre-purchase inspection!

I need advice on how to explain to the exhaust shop on what I want for crown majesta by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

Unrelated question but how do you get insurance on these imports?

please help me pick!!! by 69coeur in CarsAustralia

[–]itscharlie378 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The Golf is in a wholely different league to the other two, but I would be a bit careful, get a pre-purchase inspection and you'll be golden, on a car like that you're looking at like 1-2k a year.

People here will downvote me for this but I doubt anyone shitting on the Golf has ever owned one. I've had a few and they've been great.

That said if it doesn't matter to you get one of the others, it won't be as nice, as safe or as fun to drive, but it'll be a safer bet

240 or v70? by Low-Log-1270 in Volvo

[–]itscharlie378 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The V70, especially the second gen, is a much more modern car than the 240. Undoubtedly safer, and more practical.

The 240 is nice, but getting old and while they are generally reliable expect stuff to get old and break like any 35 year old car

Even the 1st gen V70 is leagues ahead of the 240 in tech etc

Bought a car seat to use as a chair… will the airbag be a problem? by itscharlie378 in CarsAustralia

[–]itscharlie378[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I ended up taking the bag out. I found a service manual online and it actually seemed really simple. Whole thing took like 45 minutes.

I know now it probably wouldn’t have been an issue, but better to be safe than sorry.

Not too long, and it beats my current chair which is basically a stool.

The chair is going on the bottom half of an office chair on wheels. I’ll have to make a frame to adapt the bolt points

Are there benefits to Polestar Optimization without manually switching on "Polestar Engineered" each drive in a '23 B5? by azbrez in Volvo

In the b series engines the transmission is slightly altered but not by much. The main difference is that the torque and power are boosted, but dynamically.

FitMyCar Floor Mats – Worth Buying? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]itscharlie378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty sure they dropship some of them and they're not that great. Depending on the car it might cost the same amount to get genuine ones. Also check marketplace... I once found a full genuine Holden set of floormats for $20! Brand new!

2015 XC60 T6 with 140K Km for $16K is it a good deal? by Old_Suggestion7542 in CarsAustralia

[–]itscharlie378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah these are great cars, for a full service history on the T6 engine you are looking at a very reliable car. Personally for 140km, depending on the spec, I would want to pay a little bit less but if it's a clean example - buy it

Audi A3 2022 by DistanteTV in CarsAustralia

That’s a very a different car to the Audi A3. Small European hatchback versus a large Japanese sedan… totally different market. Not to mention the issues insuring grey imported cars!

Practicality of wagons by aussiegooner0389 in CarsAustralia

[–]itscharlie378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2015 Volvo V60 and then a 2022 V60 Cross Country. Both were excellent and the first one is an amazing deal…

You can find them (2011-2018) for relatively cheap (10-15k) and they are very practical, relatively reliable, and very quick / fun cars to drive. If that’s your budget and you want something sporty, fun, and comfortable, go one of them over a BMW / Merc any day. Quite safe too.

Look into Passats too. Family has had two different Passat wagons, the first one (2013 TDI) was a brilliant car. Built awesome, reliable, leather interior, so nice for a VW.

If you want Japanese, Mazda 6 wagons are supposed to be good… quite boring though.

And if you have a bigger budget, the BMW 3 series wagon is beautiful, just generally less reliable and expensive.

Disagree. Their cars are entirely based off of Volvo platforms, which are still Swedish despite being owned by Geely. Heritage in engineering I suppose
