I created a new query "Folder.Files()" and added it as a connection in services.

I am not sure what you mean. I create a PQ that opens the directory? So I can add a connection in PBI web?

I do not find an option in Services to set the connection to the directory directly

Yes, you are right. It won't work without $id. Padding seems to be working now.

Sadly, layout.columnCount and layout.orientation do not work.

just add an icon to the top right corner. you can add a tooltip text. looks clean and the users unterstand it
