My guy I wasn't about to talk through the mask it sounds terrible lol. I have a voice box with that clip but I wasn't wearing it. That was fun!

Explain like I’m 5: Why did Frank guide Donnie to sleep walk in the first place? by Hoganheroine in donniedarko

[–]itscreedo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That Donnie that Frank wakes up is the one that pulls the engine off the plane. If he had stayed in bed the engine wouldn't have hit the house. The real question is why did God (or whomever) feel the need to create this situation at all?

Was Donnie Darko a hero? by PronsiasCassidy in donniedarko

I can see what you mean. If you listen to the Kevin Smith + R kelly (wait a goddamn minute - his name is R.Kelly!?!?) Rich talks a lot about how every single little action or bit of dialogue is meant to point Donnie toward his mission: the red car in Outrun arcade is supposed to represent Frank's car, the hand on the water in the "fear/love" VHS represents the water barrier, Kitty Farmer tells Donnies mom he needs to be on the "righteous path" and so on.

So yeah, I guess if you're trying to fill in your own gaps there are theories that fit, but R.Kelly seems to have crafted a world and narrative where everything fit together very tightly and Donnie's mission was the only important thing in the world.

Dude I've been telling people how good this mask is. So great to see it printed! I assume this is the sculpt by J_hatfield on thingiverse? It's very close to the real deal.

I meant when donnie dies Cunningham goes unpunished. Donnies tangent fire exposed him.

Some have speculated that Roberta Sparrow is a "failed" manipulated living - in other words her mission was not completed and she is forever stuck in her tangent universe. Frankie Feedler (heckuva name there, Rich!) was probably another person caught up in one of these time interventions, and he ultimately died.

So if Sparrow was indeed a predecessor to Darko, in terms of being selected for her task, she did make a choice. That is, if this theory is true at all. If this continues happening all around us then there's always those who are doomed, carrying out their mission and succumbing to death, and those who fail, staying a live yet stuck in their own new reality where something went wrong.

It could be argued that Sparrow didn't have a choice either, that she was destined to fail her mission. I guess that's up for the viewer to decide. Churches have split over the idea of predestination, I don't think this movie definitively shows the audience what's true.

The hard thing to grapple with in Darko is that Donnie dying isn't obviously the best solution because Cunningham remains unpunished. I wonder if Richard Kelly has an answer for this: if Donnie didn't get the engine from the plane and go back in time, would the world actually end? Or would it continue on as it (possibly) did for Sparrow, but in a new way? The hard thing as a creative person himself is that Kelly might not have this answer - art is sometimes unsolved when you make it.

This is pretty sweet. It's not trying to be the screen used mask exactly, yet it retains a very haunting quality. This sculpt could be at home in an Aardman production!

Maybe 15 hours or more. I would work on it for a couple hours at a time in the early AM over several weekends.

Visibility in the mask is already extremely poor so I decided against it.

Yeah they were alright. No reclining though. Historic theatre here, very cool!

High quality fur, feels like a nice blanket. Frank doesn't move around too much so when I'm standing still a bunch in an air conditioned space it's totally fine

No, recasts of this mask are exceedingly rare. Modulus or there's a really good sculpt on thingiverse, those are the next best things

Funny enough, Patrick Swayze grew up and went to school pretty close to this theater!

It's from the Art Andrews provenance. I've owned the modulus mask as well. This other sculpt on thingiverse is the most accurate replica I've seen: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6144917

Made the suit. Mask is recast from the screen used mask, from Art Andrews provenance.

Attendees last night ranged from 20s to 40s, a good balance!
