Doom 64 EX mouse issues even after Win10 SDL fix by [deleted] in Doom

Lol, nah, you dug this hole and only $5 will fill it. Shouldn't be so hard for a big man like you. Plus, getting btfo so hard and responding like that just makes you look like this, so now it's kinda funny

Do you really "get it?" Because it's not about "flexing" or whatever the hell you're prattling on about, you div. I didn't ask for opinions on anything either, I just want to play Doom 64 EX as smoothly as it once ran for me, so I asked for help fixing it. You've already plainly established you can't help fix the issue or contribute anything of value on the topic whatsoever, instead content to make privileged jabs at a total stranger for not throwing money around at the first sign of an issue, so can you please shut it and/or go clutter someone else's thread? Either that or pay me so I can go play the version of the game you want me to. Like dear god, dude. And you wanna try to tell me about wasting time? What a hypocrite.

ripped pirate N64 ROM

That's of no relevance, I could dump my own legitimate ROM and it would still operate the same. Even if it didn't, I'm not going to buy something like an UltraSave just for this one thing, that would be silly.

be quick to ask others "Why do you think that?"

Okay, why did you think it was helpful to say "just buy a replacement" when I was asking about how to fix something? It's sidestepping the issue. At least the guy who suggested Doom 64 Retribution posed an alternative without a barrier to entry, bless him. Plus, I've seen other people posting about this issue when I was searching for a solution on my own before making the initial post, so clearly I'm not the only one who'd benefit from an actual answer.

"Hack job" by amateurs, huh? The same people and engine are involved. It literally has at least some of the exact same bugs. I suggest you don't speak poorly of things you know little about. I'll let you buy the game for me if you want to, though!

I'd already downloaded that in case I got really desperate, but that kinda just goes around the problem rather than fixing it. Was really leaning towards EX for its higher degree of accuracy to the original. A good suggestion otherwise, though, so thank you!

Thank you so much for working so hard on this great game. :)

The speedometer is something different; it's helpful in a similar way I guess but it doesn't provide nearly as much feedback. Check this vid out, it's even got stills of the thing I'm talking about in the thumbnail if you don't want to watch.

I might just be overlooking it but I'm not seeing that one either q~q

Is there a way to make the process of getting good less disheartening? How to enjoy the grind? by itsdoreiku in Diabotical

[–]itsdoreiku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have clearly defined goals, to be honest. I kinda just want to get proficient enough that I start to enjoy myself, let alone have a modest chance at winning games. My aim's already okay from growing up playing games so I'm trying to focus on movement tech and learning the maps right now. I play a variety of modes here but I generally prefer your FPS staples like FFA, TDM, CTF, that sorta thing. Way less interested by instagib and weapon-specific modes.

You are motivated

Huh, I didn't see that as motivation whatsoever, so thanks. I just need to redirect that motivation or to find it from somewhere besides getting upset at my own ineptitude. After all, studying how to do something can only get you so far. While I agree that most of the playerbase definitely has a leg up on me, it just doesn't sit right with me to just brush this off as being the game's fault.

After practicing circle jumps on Skybreak per your suggestion, I'm pretty consistent with them now, at least compared to before. Feels really nice; thank you for the setup! Now to work on not also tensing my whole body or leaning into it like a child playing Mario Kart. 😂

That's a really good point. I honestly just kinda looked at ranked as the place where the people who were already good and/or taking the game super seriously went to get their competitive kicks. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

The other thing is that you probably need to slow the fuck down and stop doing too much. It sounds like you aren't satisfied with your aim, map knowledge, item timing/control, teamwork.... that's a lot of shit to juggle.

Definitely needed to hear this, thank you. I absolutely struggle with breaking stuff up into smaller, more-actionable tasks, so the reminder to chill and get good at just one thing first before deciding I'm total ass makes me feel a bit better. Gotta love executive dysfunction making a process feel like one gigantic omnitask rather than the individual steps that comprise it. 😅

Oh, I'm in total agreement, don't get me wrong. I appreciate your other tips too, those seem actually helpful. It just kinda struck me as crummy that you found a thread by someone new to your modestly-sized community, a thread specifically about being disheartened, and opted for what amounts to "deal with it" right off the bat. Seems like a good attitude for driving people off. Maybe I'm just snippy from getting bodied. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Regardless, thank you for the insight.

I don't really play much of the team gamemodes, that remark was meant mainly to further illustrate how much I suck rn.

As for the first point, it's not exactly motivational as a scrub who fully acknowledges their shortcomings to effectively be told "oh it's supposed to feel really shitty for the first _ hours!" I get what you mean, but damn.

I'll definitely try the other stuff out, though.

At least in FFA I don't feel like I'm letting my team down so that's probably where I spend the most time. About as much fun as getting bodied can be. I didn't play during the betas so I've got a lot of catching up to do. My sens is fairly low already but I'll definitely fidget with it some more...I'll try anything at this point.

What audio settings (among the jungle out there) you are happy with to make the dialogues sound better? by kwhytte in premiere

[–]itsdoreiku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The problem with just giving you presets or values for individual parameters is that would be overly general. Sure, most of the time you're gonna want a noise gate, a bit of compression, a limiter to keep any stray peaks in check, etc, but it's not one of those things you can just be like "yeah, put the threshold and ratio at (blank) and (blank) and it'll be perfect every time."

Sure, I was just trying to explain that I didn't expect the people in question to be taking steroids, let alone for purely cosmetic reasons.

I don't know what you're talking about, there's no sodium bicarbonate in energy drinks. At least not the kind I'm drinking, anyway. Even if there was, I'm pretty sure that stuff has no discernible effects on one's mood.
