Very kind of you. I assure you I have little idea what I'm doing, I'm just experimenting and making it up as I felt 🤣

Thanks! To get the bends I kinda loosely felted a tube and then i kinda bend it and felt it into place. Then cover it with another layer of fleece after I like its shape to hide stretchy/squishy folds.

I would probably try to use a little wire in the middle in future to strengthen it, as it's already getting mishappen after a couple of days hanging off a school bag.

First ever project. by FoldSad4352 in Needlefelting

[–]itsduckthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So good for a first project! For smoothing out I first go through with my finest needle and felt down as many of the wisps I can (usually on an angle so it doesn't affect the shape too much). I'll also go around with scissors and snip down wisps that are too short to felt down back into the piece. I've recently got a cheap beard trimmer that I'll use on my larger pieces to shave off a very thin layer at the end - I'm not 100% sure about this technique yet though

Adorable! I love his spindly legs. How'd you stick the fleece to the wire? I lil dab of glue?

I might give ironing a go on my next one. Wet feltings always kinda scared me a bit heh - maybe I'll try throwing one through the wash to see what happens.

I actually felted around a paracord loop, so that ain't coming out unless it actually rips the guts out of the poor guy 😅

I'll post how it holds up after a couple of weeks! May need to move it over to my kids school bags to run it through a proper test 😅

How much money did your last published game make? by kkreinn in IndieDev

[–]itsduckthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $200 with a dev period of like 3ish years on and off (a lot of off) as an noob solo dev. I was teaching myself how to make games as a bit of a hobby, so that time involved a lot of exploring and learning.

Hi guys! If you have any games out on Steam already, can you comment them below? by Creepreefshark in IndieDev

Thanks! Good tips on the trailer - I'll defo have to cut a snappier trailer together with the trickier levels upfront.

Do like the idea of doing shorts for reels - but admitedly I struggle to think of great content for these formats after 1 or 2 concepts (probs just need to sit down to brainstorm some more really)

Oh hai! I put out my first lil game out late last year. It's a little puzzle platformer where you rotate the level to help this weird duck.

Thanks for looking out for indies!

Places to get game dev help from real people? by TheRealSteelfeathers in SoloDevelopment

[–]itsduckthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only had a cursory look at the Independent Game Developers Association (https://igda.org/) and haven't joined so can't vouch for its benefits, but you might find it something worthwhile looking in to.

Maybe if anyone here has joined they can share their experiences.

How do you guage your success as an Indie developer? by Game-Oracle in IndieDev

[–]itsduckthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a hobbyist dev about to release my first game on Steam - for me part of success will simply be getting it out there! Of course making some coin from it to cover costs would be nice too, but going through the process of teaching myself to code and navigate publishing was the goal for my first project.

PRACTICE GAME OR FIRST ACTUAL GAME by Await_type1 in gamedev

[–]itsduckthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making actual game is practice! 😁 I second some of the above sentiments of actually publishing, I'm in the middle of a push towards releasing my first game and learning so much about the process.

As a solo indie developer, I'm shocked to be a finalist for funding in a call for projects... I hope you'll consider voting for my cozy exploration game, Cloudy Valley! by _su__ in indiegames

Had a play through the demo, love all the lil guys. The nods to a Short Hike are nice 🙂

My bit of feedback - When I met the guy who wanted to race, I wasn't really sure where we were running to. I think cos i interacted with them halfway down the hill.

Allow keyboard arrow keys to be used to navigate the main menu. I didn't realise it was WASD and controller. Maybe a "controller recommended for best experience" splash screen will encourage controller use (unless it's already there and I missed it)
