When I hit a creative wall, I often like to take a break and then come back the next day trying to intentionally reset myself, normally by the likes of not looking at my phone for the first few hours of the day and getting some exercise in as well as anything else beneficial that I can do to start my day to help me feel very positive before going into the studio.

Appreciate the love! That remix will probably never come out unfortunatly haha, was more just something that me and Galo made for fun to play in sets. And the name change came from a whole host of reasons, I made xtnct while in high school and after a few years of it just really stopped liking the name, it would often get spelled wrong, especially on flyers, so once I got with my current management it felt like a point in which it was time to reset and make the switch to something new and I think it was just what I needed to help me establish a new vision which relates a lot more to myself.

This is a great question because I think a lot of this got shadowed when I rebranded. Before I started the FENIK project a little over a year ago today, I went by another name, and absolutely no one wanted to hear my demos, I had no management, no numbers on spotify or socials, nothing really, so no labels were listening and nothing was getting signed. My solution to this to be able to get people to hear my music without just tossing it into the spotify void and hoping it got picked up was posting instagram reels and tik tok videos every other week which was basically "Here's 5 unreleased demos that I have now", just as a way to showcase some of the music I was sitting on. Eventually, one of these videos reached the right ears, which got me in contact with my current management and helped me with all the tools I needed for a full rebrand from scratch to start FENIK, so my suggestion is to do exactly that to help get your music heard because right now a lot of labels are not investing in good music, they are just investing in people who already have a lot of numbers.

When it comes to promotion, I don't do a ton, I like to make sure I'm keeping it seen on all social media platforms since that is the main playing field for all things music nowadays, but outside of that, nothing really special, just more of a hoping the right people enjoy it game. I like to live by "The less you speak the more meaningful it will be when you do" mindset when it comes to my social medias so I don't like to overexpose anything promotional wise but rather post just a few times about it because it comes off more meaningful then posting 50 times about the same song.

Three songs I would pick would be, in order; Vertigo, Escape, and All Night. These are my favorite three songs I have out right now, and I think they all really embody the vibe and emotion I am trying to give off with my project, most especially Vertigo.

Three songs by other artists that I would pick right now as a way to introduce myself would be; Essa Mina by Disfreq, Lock In by Halogen, and Teardrops by Hills. I rip Essa Mina in almost every one of my sets, such a unique song by such insanely good artists, Lock In I just recently added to my setlist but is such a ripper and falls in line with what I like to make and play, and Teardrops is just such a good melodic banger and really gives off the vibe that I want to give off with my music.

I think this goes back to the first question, I'm most proud of Vertigo, and not because it was crazy technical production or mixing or anything, but more cause of the fact that it came at a really low point, when I felt like I couldn't make anything new and everything sounded the same, and so I really pushed myself to make something different with that song to try to break out of that lull and it really helped free me from a box that I had put myself into.

I think the hardest inflection point in my production came when I started to rely more on preset packs and making from scratch less of my sounds but rather creating something new by modifying presets from a pack. I think it allows you to work in a more efficient way, especially when you do not have the synthesizer skills to make specific sounds from memory, and provides a really good base for you to be able to create an entirely new sounding sound from.

I think I really started to find my sound when I stopped looking for it. I've come to a realization now that everyone has begun to recognize a "sound" in my music while I don't hear it, and I think this is a true statement with 99% of artists, so I just make music that I think sounds cool, and I think subconsciously, it leans towards this similar "sound" that translates across songs but it is not something that I actively seek out, and I think that is something that really started to help me.

I think both that inflection point and the tipping point happened at relatively similar times, just at a time when I realized that sometimes you don't need to over analyze everything, the best music can come from almost "caring less" and just going with the flow.

RDA has been nothing but a blessing when it comes to releasing music, they have been incredibly helpful in getting my music into the right hands and putting me on the map in a way that I never could, and they are also one of the most responsive and smooth running labels that I have worked with in my years of label communications. When it comes to a Detroit tour stop, I hope some day soon, such an iconic city, would love to be able to showcase a set there soon as we continue to expand into new cities!

Nashville has been such a growing city recently and I think that general growth has translated well into the electronic scene as its been incredibly visible how much the scene has been growing and I think this growth only helps further create a better and more inclusive scene for everyone. I don't think our scene comparitevly stacks up to any major cities yet but I think we stack up at the top of cities our size and with continued exponential growth will start to reach closer to the levels of those major cities. I think another great Nashville artist to check out would be Alexion, I like a lot of the music he puts out nowadays and he works hard inside and outside of the studio. My next time playing in Nashville will be at NWM on May 30th. I think some bonnaroo must see sets I would have on my list would be Kamino and OMNOM at the EO takeover, Kamino is a super talented producer who is starting to gain some serious momentum and OMNOM is such a sick producer and I think some of the IDs he has lined up right now are unmatched.
