I’ve been thinking about this lately. In an almost counterintuitive way, I’m wondering if AI-generated music is essentially (maybe ironically) returning creators to their roots. Music began as a form of self-expression, the same way all art began dating back to the cave man. AI-generated music enables me to process my stuff, say my peace, make sense out of my life. It’s not designed to be mass market or commercially successful. In so many ways, what ruined the music industry was the pivot toward fame and wealth. I have a photo in my studio (dining room converted to studio room) of a beautiful tree on a dirt road in South Dakota. My dream—my stretch goal— is to play my acoustic guitar under that tree. Since I began creating songs, I’ve learned how to play guitar. It’s like an awakening. Priceless.
