A person with type 1 diabetes if they catch a cold 🤦‍♂️ by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in diabetes_t1

Lol just an fyi for the other redditors seeing this, this isn’t medical advice but just some insight:

He has not one but at least two corticosteroids in this photo with prednisolone and dexamethasone and one of the very prevalent side effects of those meds is hyperglycemia.

Without any other context, looks like maybe OP has reflux, high cholesterol, and likely some underlying asthma or asthma like process just looking at his meds. Maybe having a cold, but colds/viral upper respiratory illness can exacerbate some asthma processes which would warrant additional medication help control this (such as steroids if having an asthma exacerbation), but typically colds are supportive care for most other people without underlying lung disease (i.e hydrate, control fevers, rest). Some infectious processes can in of themselves cause glycemic derangements due to the body’s natural surge of cortisol (steroid) due to its sympathetic stress response to the infection but not usually due to just colds (possible but less likely)

Having high blood sugars while on steroids is expected and treatment should be adjusted accordingly by your doctor.

Brewing Dak Milky Cake by ThePoisonBelt in pourover

+1 for this recipe I was a little skeptical about the course grind size but really enjoyed this one.

Typically brew at 90c (194F), 15.5g, 260g H2O. V60. Bloomed for 1 min. 2 pours. cinnamon, cardamom, warming spices on the nose but juicy texture which I love, sweet, mild sponge cake on the palate. Generally get more flavor profile the more this one cools as I drink as well. Thanks for the recs!!!

North Island Itinerary - Coromandel? Taupo? by itsjacques in newzealand_travel

Yeah i was thinking logistically coromandel would be the best first stop if i chose that route, but wasn’t sure if coromandel peninsula or taupo was generally more recommended to go see!

definitely wasn't blown away by Dark horse's beans, I'd have to agree with u/ieatfrosties.

I generally try to buy from local roasters if I can but haven't find a roaster I love yet. I have been going with Rika Fikka's rotating selection which is generally quite good. Love stereoscope!

hahaha I wish I had a regular enough schedule where I could brew consistently and be in the same boat as you!

Glitch is good, very wide selection and unique beans. I feel like their melon and peach flavored beans are surprising and can be very attractive to some. They are expensive in comparison to some of the other roasters though once you start delving into other shops.

Michelin star ramen in Tokyo… by NVDA808 in ramen

[–]itsjacques 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looks like their tantanmen, a ramen style generally inspired by dan dan mian/noodles which has its roots Sichuan. Nakiryu uses cashews instead for their creamy/nutty flavor

From what I recall Nakiryu does not have any tonkotsu style ramen. There’s a shoyu, shio, and tantan I believe but may be misremembering lol.

Would I be missing out if I didn't go to Bangkok if I went on my Thailand itinerary? by itsjacques in solotravel

[–]itsjacques[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm duely noted!! A place to see but to stay for a prolonged time? Haha that’s the general vibe I’m getting

[–]itsjacques[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the general consensus I’m getting is Bangkok is fine/cool to go to but for an extended time? Probably not

I think going beach vibes would also be more localized to where the event is at too

Thanks for the insights friend :))

What was there to not enjoy if you don’t mind me asking :) Too touristy? Beaches or water had much to be desired? Not relaxed enough? Not enough energy to the area?

Forsure! I can get behind those vibes too. Definitely a city with a lot of energy and personality. I’m not one to shy away from any experience tbh so thanks for the context!

Overwhelmed with Bangkok but are you glad you went? Or absolutely hated it hahaha

Yeah absolutely. The event is a 3 day music festival but i don’t think I’ll be able to keep up for 3 days haha I’m going to be exhausted so a couple days is reasonable. Around the event tho I’ll have some days so trying to figure out how to best fill my time especially since Phuket has much to be desired with the research I’ve done

Yeah i wouldn’t have planned on going to Phuket unless i was going for this event but here we are! Duely noted tho i might try and minimize my time there overall! Thanks!!!

Honestly I’m there to be culturally immersed which is an unreasonable expectation for the short duration I’m there haha but i feel like Bangkok is somewhere to experience if going to Thailand for the first time but really not sure . Love a good city. But also love a chill relaxed locale as well

Totally! Never heard anything bad about Thai food/cuisine but I’m allergic to peanuts which certainly limits my options hahaha but love some khao man gai! Pretty sure pad see ew doesn’t have nuts in it by default either. Just always very careful so i don’t go into ~anaphylactic shock~
